It's like if someone in your family got a good job and suddenly had loads of money and kept writing off sports cars. Yeah they earned the right to do what they like but FFS.
That analogy doesn't hold up at all, its more like your house needs repair work and instead you are investing in other properties.
I'm not really letting them off the hook, I think Levy is at fault for being too involved in our transfer dealings (Paratici is so refreshing), I think we should have spent a little more (Poch vetoed a few good players in those bad windows btw), I think certain aspects of our club structure can be improved.
But at the end of the day if you spend £500m for the good of the club and due to Brexit and a useless contracting company it costs double that - well some things are a little out of your hand I understand why that money comes directly out of the kitty.
Yeah it was a terrible one
But yours isn't great either. Instead of investing in nice properties it's timeshares. Obviously bad but ok in theory.
I appreciate your opinion and see what you're saying re: exentuating (sp) circumstances, but I just don't share it.
Levy's proven that he's good at business but bad at football. And IMO until he steps away we'll always be at a disadvantage on the pitch.
(the getting a good job but was equivalent to building the stadium/revenues)
FFS had a nightmare there. No wonder my phone wasn't correcting to extenuating
Also bit*.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But why is my analogy bad? Its not like a timeshare - the whole point of the stadium is its a ridiculous money maker thats like doubled our revenue (figures not available right now). It is an investment to increase our revenue, much like it would be if you or I spent money on a house somewhere downtown so we could Airbnb it out.
I think with the fact our spending has been decent the last couple of years I'm happy to give him more time and also agree that he isn't above criticism.
I didnt like how on TEI pod they used one game to try and prove a point that the players weren't the same as under previous managers
Anyway I’ve been online too long so will take a quick break
But why is my analogy bad?

Cos of course making money is good but if how you spend it is bad you're not actually making progress.

But your analogy still implies that it's money well spent (investment properties) when in reality we've flushed it down the drain (crashed sports cars or timeshare ripoffs)

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh I see. We're talking at cross purposes. Seeing as that's all financed and - supposably anyway - not a significant impact on the football spending, I wasn't talking about that. I was on about the transfer spend
Yeah I think it was a little lost in translation. I just meant that I think it can be justified that you aren't able to spend money on footballers when you are paying off an additional £500m on a stadium.
Right yeah. I'm fine with us not spending like City but my criticism is how we've spent, when we've spent etc. And more directly re: Levy the strategy used to make those calls.
Seems like Levy throws money at it when it's too late (Poch) or when some 'great deal' comes up (Spence) rather than making the right signing at the right time (whoever Harry actually wanted) even if it costs a bit much (Skriniar instead of Rodon).
Like, anyone with a brain knows you buy cheap, you buy twice. Not always necessarily, good scouting can turn up gems.. but if you repeatedly take the cheap option or put off buying what you actually need it catches up with you.
Yeah he’s far from perfect, what frustrates me more was that he’d haggle over £1m and that’d cost us 4 weeks of preseason with a player for example
Oh chit yeah (Grealish) was a shocking one. I just feel like fundamentally, Levy's heart is in the right place and he's trying his best, but being successful at sports is different to business.
Grealish was lined up as a Dembele replacement from memory, which you wouldn’t guess now.
Even big Davo took unnecessarily long costing him his whole preseason
It would be funny if Levy copied so hard he sold out to an American
