Similar thing happened with my first ever footie shirt. Got my folks to buy a United shirt with "Sharpe 5* on the back. Wore it for the first time and I distinctly recall one of my dad's mates laughing at me as he pointed out that Lee Sharpe had signed for Leeds a week before

Tbf ex player shirts I guess are still worth having.
Although maybe not immediately after they've moved from Man U to Leeds.
