Honestly within probably a couple of decades people rightfully so won't be allowed to drive on public roads (or insurance so high/testing will be so hard it will basically be impossible) and it will be all AI - which will massively reduce accidents and traffic. The only question will be who owns the cars.

In America, people think their freedom is under threat if somebody wears a face mask within a 100-yard radius, and they believe QR codes are a form of digital tyranny.
I can't see them being too happy about having their cars and their right to drive taken from them by AI, even if it's at the behest of the Great Elon Musk.

It's not Elon, it's stats. We should not be driving.....full stop. We are too dumb as a species to drive, and outside of medical stuff and war, car deaths are next on the list, and I would guess over 95% of car related deaths are avoidable if not more. But car sales are great for governments and capitalism therefore would never be banned. Cars are interesting though, one of the highest outlays for in theory so little use (apart from a small minority of jobs that require more travel). Like seriously WFH should be mandatory in all jobs where it is possible cos big cities if not already will be grinding to a halt as real estate developers try and fit in as many high rises into tiny spaces as possible and fook what it looks like in 10 years because the infrastructure isn't there, or noone is willing to pay for it - just to keep profit margins up!

This as I said has nothing to do with Elon. It is the future. I doubt governments will simply ban people driving. It will be a slow progression. small areas where only automation is allowed, increases in insurance for those that do etc.
Remember you probably grew up driving cars. The next generation will grow up using apps and calling their rides, avoiding the expense of owning and maintaning their own.

Hmmm… I think this is more than a little bit naive.
It’s pretty much impossible to overstate the paranoia that many Americans have when it comes to their government. It’s the reason so many of them have guns: they believe that if they weren’t armed, the government would come to their houses and take away all their freedoms.
And that’s just America.
Look at how many people around the world still believe that Covid was a sinister global plan to take away our freedoms and usher us all towards a cashless society.
(And I don't believe the right to use cash is enshrined in the US Constitution either.)
Look at what happens in this country when a big supermarket dares to open a single cash-free store as a trial. There are calls to boycott that chain because apparently taking away our right to pay in cash (even in one store) is tantamount to locking us in digital prisons in which the government can determine what we can and cannot buy.
And the idea that people will stop driving simply because ‘we should not be driving’ is extraordinary to me.
We should not be doing lots of things. We should not be draining and damaging the planet for profit. We should not be electing liars, frauds and criminals to positions of power. Children should not risk being shot at school.
But individual freedoms are far, far, far more important than ‘should’.

There won't be a ban. It will be a gradual thing. The younger generation will grow up not owning cars, the older generation will moan about,
