i've no idea why people bend over backwards to make excuses for grealish, and put all the blame for his decline onto the manager, when the truth is probably that the guy's a bit dim (so not great at taking on tactical instructions), a borderline alcoholic, and simply wasn't that good to begin with.
he was never that amazing at villa, despite the fan hysteria, and one thing he was never going to get as much of at city was space to run into, so he is then forced to rely on the rest of his game, which just isn't that good - he's not that fast, his passing isn't especially incisive or expansive, and his shooting from distance isn't that great either. he was a bit of a one trick pony at villa, and that one trick won't get you too far at a top side.
but when he's failed to nail down an england spot, and generally underwhelmed when he is picked (less so recently, admittedly) it seems odd to blame a manager who has raised the game of most of the attacking players he has got his hands on - at city sterling, mahrez, de bruyne all went up at least one level, if not more, and even the "flops" like sane or doku have shown much more than happy jack.
tl;dr - he was never that great to begin with.

One of the lads who I work with is a big City fan and he said he's heard a rumour that Pep took a disliking to Palmer because he didn't celebrate a City goal in the derby few years back.
No idea if it's true or not but Palmer is a big United fan so would kind of make some sense.
Seems strange to let him leave and keep some of the others around as Pep is a genius. He'd know exactly how good he is seeing him everyday in training. If it wasn't the celebration thing it might have been something else he didn't like.

He was just simply never that good. Typical overhyped English player.
Rashford has world class stats compared to him, yet he’s apparently a disgrace and needs to go. Make it make sense.

Pick the ball up out wide, trot forward a couple of yards until the opponent is in close proximity.
If the opponent doesn't make a challenge, turn around and make a sideways or backwards pass. Receive praise for keeping possession.
If the opponent does make a challenge, wait for contact and fall to the floor and plead to the ref. Receive praise for winning a 'foul'.
Has football ever been this easy?

ah, the sterling paradox. remember when he got 130 odd goals and assists for city - c. 6 x what grealish has managed - and that was all down to robot pep telling him exactly where to stand for those 90 tap-ins? he was too stupid to figure it out for himself, whereas grealish knows exactly what he wants to do, but robot pep won't let him.
