Lol there’s about 10 teams in Europa right now better than Bournemouth. There is no way in the world United win Europa.
OP I’m with you, I expect a finish from 10-14th this season. The sooner the fans realise this the better. It will save a lot of pain and take the pressure off the manager.

It's truly pathetic.
Most squads which need work are at least good at something to start with e.g. scoring goals, defending or keeping the ball under pressure.
We aren't good at anything. And to make matters worse we are slow, poor in the air and have terrible stamina levels.
Genuinely think we could finish with less than 50pts.

The squad isn't great but it's definitely NOT the 13th best squad in the league. We were 4 points of 3rd place before Amorim started. And we were pretty shambolic up till then.
The issue between now and the end of the season is we have group of guys who were struggling in their preferred positions now having to figure out to perform in unfamiliar roles.
I think we've done the players and RA a disservice with how this was handled. This transition needed a proper preseason. We've not given him any opportunity to build his credibility with this group of players.
Regardless of what we do in the summer the bulk of these players are still gonna be here next season. So it's important they buy in wholeheartedly into what he's preaching. That ain't gonna be happening with one defeat after another.
I'd also prefer it if the manager was more flexible. Doesn't always have to be 3 at the back. And the constant changing of the lineup is not gonna allow any meaningful partnerships to form in the short term.

It's Christmas, and I'm too tired to type a 'long one', but basically as bad as we are, we should still be top 8 at least, but we know that there will be good and bad times along the way. This squad (or an even poorer version of it) has finished 3rd and 8th in the last 2 seasons, and even allowing for the changes Amorim is implementing, I expect us to be better than last year. up and down performances were to be expected, just as I don't get too carried away with the wins, I won't get overly depressed about losses, even though the Bournemouth result wasn't acceptable no matter our current circumstances

Changing the manager, especially for one that uses this formation, wasn’t likely to see significant improvements as it’s still the same shiiiiiit squad.
Won’t be a surprise if we finish even lower than 8th this season. And I know the fans will start blaming the manager for that as well.

I think the next couple of months will be a real mixed bag, but hopefully the final 10 games or so we will be better.
I should say this is all relative - we won't be in a position to really challenge until we make some new significant signings. but in terms of progressing up the table to outside the top 4

It’ll be an up and down season, most games under Amorim that we have played are a bit of a coin flip, we could’ve won or lost almost every game. Even yesterday, on an another day we take our chances and don’t give away silly goals and we win 3-0.

Fellaini would fit quite nicely into the standard of players that we have playing for us right now. When United started buying players like him, all them years ago it was the thin edge of the wedge as to what was coming. I still wake up in a sweat recalling that he actually captained Man United once.

I think people need to come to terms with the fact we won't be in Europe next season now. This team isn't consistent enough to achieve it.
We keep saying we are only 6pts away from being right in the mix but the trouble is we just don't win enough football games to make up that ground.
Quicker we get to 40 the better. I bet Ruben can't wait till the season is over. He's been handed an impossible task until next season really.
Nearly at half way point and we have 22pts. I don't think we will be getting more than 52 this season and finishing with as few as 47/48 is very possible for us now.

The squad is poor but three or four really good signings (LWB, RWB, LF/CF, CM) would make a huge difference, not to mention further development of young players like Mainoo, Yoro, Garnacho, Amad & Rasmus.
We’re playing a system that critically depends on WB’s without any actual WB’s, and relying on young players who are still at the wrong end of the development journey in key attacking positions.

I think our downfall is largely down to the lack of buying power in the PL.
Back when we had Fergie, we almost had our choice of the best up and coming Premier League stars.
Now that clubs don't need to sell and players have more lucrative options (thanks to Chelsea and City), we failed to adapt our scouting network.

The only thing that will save this season if if somebody goes massive on Rashford and gives us £55-60m to spend in January. We could then potentially go sign 2/3 players and make a late push for a European spot / Europa League title.
With the current squad we will finish bottom half. This is just how bad we are.

This squad is nowhere near perfect, but it's not as bad as many make out, and I mean that in comparison to teams who are in the top 10 but not expected to make top 4. Amorim has got as close to a free reign as you can get, unless he loses 10 in a row, but that's not going to happen.
I am a big supporter of Amorim and what he is trying to do, but it's overkill to not expect this team to finish top 8, no matter what is he doing. I think he realises this also. There is still an unacceptable level which we should not drop below, regardless of all the changes being made.

It’s a completely new system for the players to learn.
Most of these players have played in a three at the back for a month of their entire careers (being the last month).
We’ve had two games a week every week since Amorim joined, which has left next to no time on the training ground.
We have an entirely new coaching staff which needs to learn about and build new relationships with the players.
Due to the change in system, we have a new bunch of holes in the squad. We have zero specialist wingbacks. We have one recognised number ten who can stay fit. We also have a bunch of players who are effectively now redundant unless they learn roles which are completely new to them.
Yes, there is an issue with the general level of quality in the squad; but there are myriad reasons why this is going to be very difficult and take a lot of time.
