Inside forward
Operates more centrally, focusing on scoring goals. They start wide and then move into the field, often dribbling through crowded areas. Inside forwards are usually good goal scorers.
Outside forward
Also known as a winger, they are stationed wide near the touchlines. Wingers are attacking players who provide width to the attack. They are known for their dribbling ability.
In Italian football, the inside forward was sometimes called a mezzala, which literally means "half-winger". However, this term is now obsolete and has been replaced by the term interno, which means "internal".
_____________
Its all a bit of the same for me, giggs did things salah does and salah does things giggs did too. Obviously slight differences, team set up for one and maybe more or less of certain aspects.

Not sure the term winger only applies to the wide midfielders in a 4-4-2 system. Seems insane to think that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, it applies to a wide player who gets up and down the line, helping in both attack and defence and supporting the attack with crosses, rather than being a main part of the goals himself.

Putting a third midfielder in and dropping a striker basically put an end to proper wingers as you had less of a target inside and the midfield began covering the full backs, allowing the wide players to stay higher and more cental, hence why wide players now score goals on the level of strikers.

I wouldn't class any of those as wingers apart from Giggs. In my view a wingers gets up and down the line dribbling and swinging crosses in as well as helping out the full back.
Pires and Hazard were more attacking midfielders. Ronaldo and Salah wide forwards.
So Giggs for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Beckham I thought was more influential than giggs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not for me. Good player of course but also not in the list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it's the best ever wingers in PL history and the list was given to us by Robb
That ball that Trent played last night, everybody creamed over it because of how good it was, that was Beckham every match, multiple times a match.
I love giggsy as a player but I always though Beckham could influence a game more than Giggs could. He was the best there was at what he did, and that was assisting and scoring absolute worldies - all my opinion of course.

Not for me. Giggs has the most assists in PL history and I think is top five of all time goals/assists. It's funny as I've seen many United fans overrate players who were excellent players no doubt, like Scholes and Irwin but the two who are actually the two best United players in the PL era, Keane and Giggs get underrated.

I think he'd be a midfielder, like a De Bruyne, who gets wide and puts the ball in but also does the work in midfield. It's kind of how Madrid used him anyhow. Although I guess he could have worked well on the right in United's current system.
posted 2 weeks, 6 days ago
Interesting, I would have had him down as the perfect kinda player to do that inverted FB role given his athletic ability, range of passing and tactical awareness.
Maybe he's just too good to be pigeonholed there though.
