Although this is clearly a WUM article, the standard of the league doesn't appear great this year.

Having said that, there have been plenty of seasons where the top one or even top two teams have accumulated well over 90 points in recent years. That speaks for a league lacking overall quality. Just because Liverpool are running away with it this year, doesn't change the fact that the league has long been uncompetitive.

The ironic thing is that a genuinely strong league, where anybody could beat anybody on any given day and the champion gets roughly 80 points would be decried as a league with no outstanding team, rather than extremely competitive

See what happens when, for the first time in 120+ years of the league, you don't have a Scotman managing a club, it all goes to pot.

Yeah, the thing I have noticed this season is that Liverpool are generally looking very solid and making few mistakes, whereas the others are generally dropping points on a regular basis and don't look capable of maintaining a decent run to challenge them.
We have won many a league where the opposition hasn't been quite up to it, the early 2000s come to mind, and more recently the 10-11 season i think - we had an insane home record, but won about 5 games away from home and just drew a whole pile, but everyone else was really poor that season, barely made 70 points I think.

I prefer when the top teams aren't simply running away with it and just winning game after game - don't get me wrong, I admire on the pitch what City have done in recent seasons, and credit to Liverpool for occasionally giving them a fight, but it's more interesting when teams are dropping points when not expected. It would be good to get a genuine 3 or 4 team fight for the top, but that never seems to materialise

Saw someone earlier saying the league has dropped so much this season, that even the 22-23 Arsenal team would run away with it.

Couldn't agree more... not even Arteta's best ever Arsenal side would walk this current league with ease. It's pathetic how bad it is.
