Bruno and yes, Dalot were our best players yesterday.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd add Ugarte to that list, despite his culpability in the first goal we conceded. His pass unlocking the move that led to Maguire's chance was another example of his use of the ball being considerably better than we expected.
By the way, I assume that not many others have talk about Dalot's performance yesterday comes down to a reluctance to credit a player they hate.

He's another who is playing in an unfamiliar position and a lot is being asked of him. I feel he is more of a useful utility squad player rather than out and out first choice, but given he is fit and more reliable than others, he is doing the best he can.
But I agree that it seems to suit some not to praise a player when he does well for us, if he isn't flavour of the month.

I think I praised him and have been a defender of him in the past! I think he could turn out to be a very valuable squad member under Amorim as he can cover LWB, RWB, LCB and RCB IMO.

Obviously, you're at the top of my list of haters, Diafol!
I do think Dalot's future at United is more uncertain under Amorim than it would have been under ETH. His profile isn't suited to being a natural wing back. That said, he played really well yesterday (albeit up against a weak link in Liverpool's defence), he might be a bit of a utility player as he can play both sides and at a stretch could cover at DM, and (as you said) isn't one of the players who lacks the personal and athletic qualities we are generally trying to instil in the squad. In addition, I think I'm right in saying Amorim seems to have him cutting inside in possession more often than what I understand to be his model for wing backs at Sporting, so we could be seeing some tactical adaptation to get more of what he's good at. All in all, I'd be surprised to see us prioritising his sale, though it could be that in our PSR straightjacket he's a player we can't afford not to cash in on to fund the squad building we need.

I think the current team we had yesterday is closest to the strongest we can play. You could bring in Yoro to swap in the back 3, but the rest of the team generally picks itself.
If Shaw was fit, he would probably challenge for LCB instead of Martinez.
In a fit squad, options from the bench would be Garnacho and Mount, altho Mount still needs to convince me.
But the likes of Eriksen and Cas are a drop down, but can be useful squad players. But it doesn't take too many injuries and the team is then fairly weak.

De Ligt has been decent for us. I don't see how anyone can think otherwise. And that's in the context of coming into a new league, playing under three different managers in that time with different systems and at a period in which we're struggling for confidence, form and quality.
He certainly did overcommit out of desperation against Gakpo - I think he has that in his game which I'd like to see ironed out over time. The handball was a bit unlucky... it happens.

Surprised he’s done so poorly tbh, thought he was a good signing.
Sent to the shops by Gakpo and the handball was amateur. Deservedly hooked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He really hasn’t done poorly, at all. Anyone who has watched all of our games will tell you that he’s been the best of our starting CBs so far this season (Mazraoui aside, if people want to count him).
Steady, consistent, decent in the air, pushes out well and very consistent in his passing. Doesn’t have very good acceleration, but he’ll settle as our CCB eventually I think.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s been average imo and I’ve watched maybe 8 Utd games this season. Forest have better cbs going on this seasons performances.
I felt he was deservedly hooked. Utterly sold himself by over committing Gakpo, particularly when you consider everyone knows that is exactly was Gakpo is going to do.
James Justin, who is a terrible defender, did the exact same thing last week… over committed himself and went to ground.
The handball was just daft.
I don’t know if you are watching other teams??? I do remember thinking Lucas was steady in midfield for us once upon a time.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought the handball was unlucky. He was trying to change his momentum in the other direction after Martinez flicked it on with his header. His hand came out as a result and then it was headed onto his hand from close range.
With Gakpo's goal he could have stayed on his feet, but Ugarte was more to blame rushing out and leaving all that space in behind. De Ligt went to try and make the block and also had 2 other defenders in and around him who might have also got a block in.

I thought that he had got himself into a position where he could have stuck his leg out without sliding. Gakpo didn't have much to aim at from the angle he was at, so there was a good chance he was going to look to cut back inside. As a defender there I am always going to try and keep the player on the outside and trust in my keeper to cover the goal.
As for Ugarte, he left a man completely free to run into and area that was already quite congested. It was a a nice ball through, but Ugarte created the space for Liverpool.

I think as a defender there, you keep them on the outside on the tight angle. It has to be some finish to beat the keeper from that kind of angle. Once he cuts back inside be opens up the whole of the goal for himself.

Would have to look again but I think the danger from Gakpo's left foot would've been the ball across goal rather than a shot. In which case, from that position, I think you've got to do what you have to do to get across and stop it, and the risk of the attacker chopping back inside.
Would just put it down to really good play from Gakpo tbh - even afterwards it's an excellent finish.

"With Gakpo's goal he could have stayed on his feet"
Not sure I agree with this, in full speed De Ligt is trying to make up ground and he can't just stop and turn on a 6 pence, he's a big lad.

Yeah. It's one of those - if Gakpo decides to take it with his left foot and De Ligt doesn't go full stretch to block it, he'd also get criticised.
