On Diafol's recommendation, I followed the link to the Arsenal match thread for some light entertainment. I also learned from D'Jeezus that the failure to punish Ugarte's brutal headbutt wasn't the only rank injustice meted out against Arsenal yesterday.

I *think* this related to the build-up to Bruno's goal:

Clearly controlled that with his hand. Where is VAR???

---

This was after Saliba went down after Hojlund wrestled free from what appeared to be an attempted sexual assault:

nothing on saliba

Yeah, that is why blood is piiiissing out of him.
Blatant foul, ref is having a mare. Missing everything.

This is about the penalty award:

Clear foul ffs. Dangles a leg.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The incident that really annoyed me was Saliba clutching his face claiming that Hojlund elbowed him - barely grazed him and went down like a sack of spu ds. It's incidents like this that need to be retrospectively punished against all teams - our players will have done in other games, but there's no point having a go at just one team

"Grazed" enough to draw blood causing the ref to order Saliba to go off at a corner to have it dressed...

Oh and to hear fans of the bigger clubs complain about VAR, hilarious. Wolves fans could write a book.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
and yet your club voted to keep it going
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Que? We were the only ones that voted to stop. the only 19 spineless cants didn't want any of it?!?!

Wolves have said they are "disappointed" but "acknowledge and accept the decision" made by Premier League clubs to keep video assistant referees [VAR] in England's top flight next season. Clubs voted 19-1 in favour of keeping VAR with Wolves, who triggered the vote, the only team wanting to scrap the system.Jun 6, 2024

Arsenal have suffered more than most from wrong VAR calls (ie apology inducing errors acknowledged by PGMOL) but VAR isn't the issue and getting rid of it isn't the answer. It is the PGMOL that needs questioning, not the system they misuse.

posted 4 days, 11 hours ago

I would rather all the controversies and talking points without VAR than the ones with.

Get it in the bin

----------------------------------------------------------------------
You don't need to smack someone to draw blood. Even if you have a cut, you don't hold your face like a baby and like you have been hit by a boxer. All players do it, it's embarrassing. I think you are wumming a wee bit, because you are normally a sensible poster, but don't try to make excuses for players when there aren't any.

There has been many a game when Bruno reacts or whinges like he has been shot, i don't like that either.

But Havertz really did take it to the limit yesterday, and Saliba was no better

So we’ve concluded refs are out there trying to favour wolves and we’ve had to bring technology in to stop it.

Really?

One decision can be the difference between 1 point and 3, kind of important. And Top and bottom of that table have 8 decision difference ffs

----------------------------------------------------------------------

In that incident Saliba was hugging Hojlund tightly from behind and the only way he could free himself was by rotating his body. He chose to do that rather than give up on trying to play football and accept the foul. Yeah, Saliba was caught, but not with any intention to hurt him, and only as a direct consequence of illegal contact on his part. Saliba proceeded directly from fouling his opponent to attempting to get him sent off.

The problem is that once someone believes there's a conspiracy against them, no amount of truth or reasoning will shake that belief. You're better off not engaging with them.

VAR would be fine if it did what they said it would do. Correct clear and obvious errors. It doesn't do that though and we spend three minutes seeing if somebody's kneecap was a cm ahead of another guys foot ffs.

Wouldn't even mind if they just used it for penalty decisions honestly but rewinding the play thirty seconds to pick up an innocuous foul on the half way line 20 seconds prior?! Seriously?!?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Clear and obvious doesn't apply to offsides, nobody ever said it did.

Offsides are a factual call.

None of what he says is the fault of VAR. It's still the refs being incompetent while using VAR. Removing VAR so that those same incompetent refs can have their way entirely is daft.

I mean going back 20 seconds is extremely rare also but if the referee has made a clear and obvious error in the build up to a goal it should absolutely be chalked off.
