Shameful. A drunk bloke gives his wife a slap but I suppose that was her fault eh?

well its possible..
and you dont know what she may have done.

And you do Duke or are you just trying to justify the action of this drunk?

It was well reported in the press at the time and Gascoigne apologised for it. It cost him his marriage.

There was no mention of her "deserving it".

Still, I'm sure you can continue to try and justify it simply because he played for Rangers (I suspect if he'd played for anyone else you wouldn't be).

Not at all mate.

I said its possible she may have stepped out of line.

it is also possible that Gazza was a bit harsh with her.

Yes he did say sorry as he is decent guy.

Gazza said sorry for his drunken actions against his wife and has shown remorse.
He was a legend for the teams he played for and a genius with the ball.
He also has personal issues and alcohol addiction to fight,so let him do so.

The Duke

Give up. He hit her. That is a fact. You have NO evidence that she "deserved it" so stop trying to change history just because the thug played for Rangers.

look Harry is it unheard of that his dinner wasnt ready or perhaps cold.....

Is in not possible she talked back to her husband os stayed out with her palls later than she said.

These things go on.

And I never said she deserved it just that its 'possible'

I think the OP was reffering to his status as a football player - in which case he is quite correct - Paul Gascoine = Legend.

maybe in his personal life he hasnt been such a legend though

dos if Harry can talk pash on the police thread then I can on this....

OK Harry, I suspect if Gasgoigne played for anyone but Rangers you wouldn't be so vociferous. If alll football players were judged on their off the field activities there wouldn't be many heroes but let's try again.

GAZZA. Football legend.

Dos

It gets tiresome having to repeat this.

Did I say anything about the state of the man or his recovery? No. Why do people on here read one thing and see another?

I was merely referring to his action of hitting his wife.

If he played for anyone other than Rangers would you class him as a legend?

He is still a footballing legend though Harry.

Maybe the issues in his private life have overshadowed his abiltiy on the field, but it would be hard to say that he isn't a football legend

His footballing ability and legendary status for Newcastle, Spurs ,Lazio and England are never disputed. Why should they be disputed when he was playing for Rangers? Take off your green tinted specs and cast your mind back.

Highly talented footballer. Not the first one to have off-field problems and he won't be the last (particularly with drink).

posted on 13/11/11

Was he really a legendary footballer though?

Played a mean flute as well.

Anyone that uses a jacuzzi as a toilet after stealing whisky is no legend in my book.

He's just a lonely skeletal alki with no mates and a warped sense of right and wrong.
