he aint a selfish barsteward mate

he obviously had his problems if you think he is selfish then you have a selfish mind yourself.

Yes he did leave his family behind but he has obviously had an ongoing problem which he couldnt deal with.

Its an easy way out!

On balance I can see both points of the argument. The news about Gary Speed has been quite shocking and on the basis that he appears to have been one of the good guys it is understandable that tribute should be paid to him. a minutes applause is quite fitting.

Where is the relevance to Scottish football though? Why no similar tribute for other footballers who have died young. FFS in Scotland we never even postponed the next game for one of the teams playing the day Phil O'Donnell died.

The post last night was about having a two minute applause on the 7th minute as Speed apparently scored 7 International goals for Wales. I just don't get why you would go top that level.

Also playing Devils Advocate, If it had been Gazza that had died at the weekend would there be the same motivation to have a tribute?

Given Celtic have a couple Welsh players who were a part of Speed's Wales squad fair enough. Obviously nothing wrong with showing respect.

But I can see the other point of view, if the South Korea manager died would there be a minutes silence?

Celtic may be having a minutes applause as they have 2 players in there team that play under him for wales, Adam Matthews & Joe Ledley that could be one of the reasons.

But your comment calling him a selfish bassa is truely out of order

If so, then there should be in my opinion.

if im told to have a minutes silence or a minutes applause before a game i'll honour it

i find it very fitting thats it being done and i expect every ground to do it

the guy was a BRITISH FOOTBALL LEGEND he deserves to be honoured

Gary Speed was a model pro, pleasure to watch when i was growing up and if i want to show respect for someones passing i'll do it.

you exactly do you think you are to say people are using this as a "look at me" excercise? wtf is wrong with you seriously?

posted on 29/11/11

thats the only reason i can think of them having a minutes applause if it was any other team i would question it

Are they doing it at 7 minutes in because he scored 7 goals?

At the end of the day whether you agree with it or not, its happening!!

So we can either moan and point score or we can act like human beings and show a little respect. Football fans shouldnt use something like this to dig at eachother

Quite agree, Ghod, would just prefer it if it was held at the w/end, so all can show their respect.

can honour a british football legend ok, but not the british servicemen?

celtic play on wednesday its the first we have played since we found out, it would be like telling city last week to wait a week before honouring a silence so everyone can join in you know.

i'll pay my respects because i respected him as a football player and as a professional. thats it.

I don't see the problem with football fans wanting to pay a bit of respect to someone in the game that has passed away. RIP

I agree with the sentiments with animal on this, did any English team apart from those he played for honour Phil O'Donnell in the same way?

A minutes applause is fitting, no doubt in my mind.

A two minute applause on the 7th minute because he scored 7 international goals as was mooted last night just seems a bit cringe imho.

guy dies and the first thing they look at is how they can use it to show disdane towards their rivals.
