Koscielny is the better defender IMO but Vermaelen wil get more praise due to his all action style and his ability to rocket a shot in.

Alex Song was out of position that's why Koscielny was out of position Jesus.
Koscielny didn't just wander into midfield. Alex Song who was suppose to be a DM was deep into Cityshalf and then when he got back he moved Koscielny over and went for Balotelli.
Song lets Balotelli from the corner flag come inside and let him shoot. It was shocking defending. Song for me in those situations is a liability
john your OP was actually a decent article but you had to follow it up with complete garbage as usual.
How you can say Koscielny was not at fault for the goal is ridiculous. Yes, Song did not cover himself in glory, but neither did Gervinho for losing the ball, Szczesney for parrying the shot back into the 6 yard box, Arteta for tracking Aguero back to the 6 yard box then going on a walk about and Miquel for not trying to clear the ball. There were plenty at fault but it would not have happened if Koscielny was positioned correctly. It isn't even that he did not position himself well, he made no effort to get back in position.
As for Vermaelen, he has not struggled at LB at all. The error he made yesterday was not due to the position he was playing it, it was just a stupid clumsy error that any player could make at any area of the pitch whether playing out of position or not.
Kos and TV are both class in the center and are proving to be decent full backs aswell. Why do we have to start comparing them to one another? They are both class and both our defenders?
But LK should have made it a 2 v 1 situation. We had enough cover in the centre...
People have been raving about Alex Song because of his attacking ability not his defence like Vermaelen he had 2 great shots vs City and Arsenal fans think he's a god.

I thought you might take your head out of your backside about Song after seeing our performance last night john. It was embarrassing how much we missed him. Whether you think he is a proper DM or not is irrelevant, he is an important member of the team, just as Van Persie who is 'not a proper striker' has been our best player of the season.

If Coquelin was in DM we would have controlled the CM better. Frimpong wasn't at the races been a while since he played a premier league game
He was on a booking and Dowd was the ref. Did you see how Song had both his hands behind his back. He was bricking it that Dowd would give yet another decision against us.
It's not a defenders place to contribute goals. Why would he be scoring goals?
Verm is our attacking CB. Therefore we aim the ball towards him in corners or for free kicks. Why is that a fault for Kosc. Plus, he's stopped many more goals than he's caused.
Also Song I already had this argument with you and convinced you that Merts should have done better. I beat you
