If you give up on your record signing and go back to playing the 30+ Drogba after barely a year do you think many other top strikers will want to join you?

I'll have Torres

Its the way Chelsea work, they dont buy for the future they buy for instant sucess. Sorry i should say Roman not Chelsea

Drogba plays when he wants too

To 'Football not soccer', one stat mentioned on BBC yesterday was this: Torres has scored more PL goals for Liverpool in 2011 than he has for Chelsea (3).

Totally agree. Great article.

Sell Torres.
Keep Drogba.
Sign a new world class striker.

Can we do a deal?
Torres plus £20m for Tevez.

OP do some research.
Drogba will not sign a years contract. He wants 2 years.
This has been the sticking point all along.
Not as easy as you think is it?

posted on 27/12/11

Give him a chance till the end of the season. I do think supporters have alot more sympathy for Torres than Drogba but that's not the point

During Jan and Feb I think Torres has one last window of opportunity to save his career at Chelsea.

I am not optimistic, but I won`t give upon him until after this period is over.

OP............what annoys me is the excuses that some Chelsea fans make for Torres. They just can´t bear to face the reality that we may have purchased a 50m turkey.

I don´t particularly like the idea myself, but it may well be the case.

Like who?
As much as Torres has failed to reproduce his early Liverpool form can you guarantee anyone else coming in won't flop?
I wouldn't give up on Torres until at least the season ends

Exactly, give Torres till the end of the season if he carries on flopping then get rid of him and bring in some new blood. Either way Drogba has to go IMO

I agree, Stig does'nt give Drogba a chance. Torres must apparently start every game. Drogba has done wonders for our club and deserves some respect. What has Torres done for us other than miss oppurtunities set up for him on a plate.

Cavani, Demba Ba, Pato, Gomez, Benzema, Higuain.
Not really going on specifics, just a top striker.

Never mind Torres, AVB should go as well. This guy is totally clueless. He's no idea what he's doing.

posted on 27/12/11

Op you got it spot on, torres would have gotten us out of the cl with his various misses, drogba saved avb's job, we need to sell torres and buy ba, cavani or tevez, then a decent midfielder and we are home and dry

posted on 27/12/11

AVB has made mistakes but he has got guts and we need a manager like him to help Chelsea in transition and take it back to dazzling heights of Mourinho era.
The way he has stood firm and dropped players like Lampard and Drogba is great to see when they were underperforming. Also he has done well to nurture Romeu and given Sturridge chance to show his true talent and I think that McEachren and Bertrand will make it to Chelsea first after two to three years in the future.

A great point from Mr Capello

If Drogba hadnt played these recent games. We would probably be out of the champions league, 5th in the Prem and AVB could also have lost his job. Torres is a liability. O ye and for those saying we should build the team around Torres would be the biggest mistake Chelsea have ever made.

I think spending big on strikers especially rarely works out for us.
I don't want to list them as we know who they are.
What I will say is 20 years ago we paid big for Fleck and peanuts for John Spencer at the same time.Spenny was a better buy.
Maybe its the price tag.By spending big the expectations and pressures are high. Its about time our scouts sniffed out a bargain.

its funny how this article has come up even though he was one of our best players yesterday

posted on 27/12/11

and also in this period Drogba's only good game has been valencia. Im as frustrated with Torres as anyone else but you have to be fair here

posted on 27/12/11

Mr Capello I don't agree with you that we only need a top striker and a midfielder. We need defenders with quality but one fault with AVB this season has been that we are conceding goals left right and centre. We conceded 5 against Arsenal and 3 against Manchester United and we are likely to concede 1 goal against almost every team we play and we need a brave keeper. We should sign a good substitute for Cech and Cech's form has dipped after his accident with Hunt against Reading.

Don Mata

Disagree mate.
I didnt watch the game yesterday because i was out. But i have watched 95% of Chelsea's games this season and Drogba has looked twice the player of Torres and Drogba is 33. Drogba has looked a beast recently and Torres has just been getting in the way.

Don’t slaughter me, but I want to ask what you guys think of Adebayor? The guy will be on sale at the end of the season and will most likely cost less then 20m.

I know many people don’t like him but he is a good striker and would be a perfect cheap replacement for Drogba.
