I have to say though Fuzzy, if we can now count on the old players to show their class then it can't all be bad.

Final Score made Bennett man of the match and said we deserved it without any doubt.

If there's anything to be read into the result, performance and team it is perhaps that we had Bennett, Hayter, Stock, Friend / Lockwood and Button out there who were all well rested. Barnsley are down to the bare-bones regarding fit players and after a Christmas program, that isn't good.

I'm keeping an eye on Barnsley. If things are as bad as Keith Hill is saying, they could have a slide similar to ours last season.

The Shop-Window players may be a help to us as the season progresses in that we can rotate more (as we did today). It will be interesting to see how much rotation goes on.

Who would have thought that DS would have the courage to put out SOD's team, a team which I see as the real Rovers, rather than the aliens who stream through doors too quickly for me to count let alone learn all their names. Was the latest prospect Peruvian? Willie must be in tears.

Brilliant performance all round we thoroughly deserved it copps and stock were class hayter ran and chased everything! But for a world class and I mean world class save it could have been 3 but brilliant and well done rovers!

Deano has a bigger problem now what with three more temps wanting to play! Who gets he final decision Willie with his temps or Deano sticking with a team of old boys with the fight we saw today? Its going to be interesting to see the outcome.

Superb team effort today.
Special praise to Copps, Hayter, Stock and Hird(he didnt go off obviously).
Nice to see that we won and Billy didnt score, in fact he got involved in the build up all day which he doesnt ususally do, he was showing for balls to feet rather than chasing long stuff over the top.
With performances like this we CAN avoid the drop.

The fight we showed and defending from the front was very heartening to see. If we continue to show such hunger we've got a good chance of staying up. Well done lads

Good evening all. just got back from the match. What a brilliant performance from the lads!
Have just read the thread and to clear things up, it was definitely Friend who went off injured, but Locky was a really solid replacement - had an excellent game.
For me, man of the match was Stocky closely followed by Copps. Bennett was excellent and poses a real attacking threat but more important was the skill, fight, know how and experience of the old boys. To be honest, I can see how Vaz Te can be a threat but Stocky had him in his pocket all afternoon. Billy didn't have his best game but set up Hayter's goal brilliantly and Bennett's goal (a great finish) came following a mis-control by Billy and some excellent play by Copps.
As Azza said, the effort was excellent - the lads gave 100%. Based on this performance, we can continue to have hope.
Re the short termrs versus core team debate, the club's strategy can work as long as Deano picks the best TEAM for each match, regardless as to whether they are short term contract players, loanees, or longer term "core team" players.
One slight concern for me. After the match, Stocky went around the ground applauding the supporters - he looked a little sad as he came off the pitch. I wondered then if Newyankee's information is correct and Stocky is going to go out on loan. I sincerely hope that if this is planned that the club change their minds. I cannot imagine any short term player putting in as good a performance as Stocky did today, full of effort, steel and know how as to how to compete in this division.

A lot is being said about the old guard as opposed to the new players on here.
As Crazy says, we should pick the best team for the game in question.
If Diouf and Beye had been available i would have wanted to see them in the team.
As it was the players who came in did a great job but if they are both available for the game against Cardiff i would expect them to come straight back into the side.
Both are class acts.
Having said that the squad does now look much stronger than it has done for ages and that bodes well for the times when things have to change, like today.
Crazy, its funny how people see things differently, i read your comments about Billy not having his best game but as i said earlier, i thought he was more involved in the teamwork today than he has been for some weeks.
In the last few games if he hadnt have scored you wouldnt have noticed he was on the pitch at times.
Its all about opinion.

Hound, I bow to your opinion on this one. This is the first game that I have managed to get to for quite a few weeks so you are probably in a better position than me to judge how today's performance compares with his recent performances. You are right, he did make himself available and put in a good overall performance. I just thought that as the game progressed, his control wasn't quite as good as it usually is, i.e. very, very good.

Yes that would be true but i was especially watchin Hayter in the last 15 minutes and he was running on empty but still giving his all.
I think Billy was cream crackered as well but he is getting back to being fully fit so probably tiredness played a part.

Yes, I agree Hound. Also, i think the keeper, David Button deserves a mention. He didn't have too much to do but pulled off 1 great save and looked solid all afternoon.
The guys behind me were making the obvious jokes about him being lightening quick off his line, but made the mistake of referring to him as Jason rather than Jenson!

I could cry after the hurt of the Oakwell debacle. Rovers, I am so proud of you!

Got to agree with everything being said here, excellent performance all over the pitch. If i had to pick a weak point I'd say gillett was poor, but otherwise very good performance!
Just got hope Stockie stays, on todays performance he's the heartbeat of the team.
Good start to 2012, lets hope it continues!

Just been on facebook and saw that someone had wrote a status saying that the people chanting "Billy where's your baby gone" are sick etc. It is the first i've heard about it but on twitter Billy has posted saying he didn't hear anyone say that and he hopes no-one would be that disrespectful. I hope not too but it's sad if it did happen.

Also Rob Station on twitter (pretty reliable, works for the bbc and was one of the first to report about Diouf) has posted in the last hour saying he has just spoke to Saunders and we have turned down a bid for Billy and Stocky isn't leaving. I don't know whether the bid for Billy was the Leicester one or a new club.

It would have to be really sick people who would chant something like that.
When and where did it happen?
