Even though he has barely kicked a ball in the last three seasons Balde has been enjoying a tidy £28,000 per week - £5 million since 2005 - at the Parkhead club, making him one of the highest paid players on the books (as well as one of the longest serving having been at the Hoops since 2001). It has also been reported that the player will also earn a £1 million loyalty bonus at the end of his Celtic contract, which expires today.

"Laudrup the OP's point is very valid - why would anyone do business with your club during the January window on the basis of a credit line "

They won't, which is why you have almost 7 pages of deflection.

They will have to sell in order to buy, and they will have to get cash up front.

Ginger, why was it so appalling? The guy finished last season flyin,if he'd reproduced that this season(and who thought he wouldnt?) we coulda been lookin at potentially 10mill this coming summer anyway. Sellin our star striker with five mins of the window left would not have been the best of starts to Whyte's tenure, would it?

"I would think that the bulk of any transfer fees brought in at Rangers this year will have to be earmarked for something other than players"
---------------------------

I would agree with you. Though I'm guessing some inward business might still be done in terms of free/cheap/loan players - and it is possible for such signings to work out well.
