Toure overran the ball and ran across Skrtel. It was a blatant dive
OK - if it was a dive, the ref should not have given a pen. My point was - pen & sending off, or no pen and book Yaya.

Agreed, but because he'd overran the ball before the foul came in, I don't think you could call it DOGSO. Surprised Skrtel didn't get a yellow though.
I would like to see a challenge system in place. Each manager could do so say once or twice a half.
However these decisions do seem to even themselves out and it didn't make much difference to the fact City were the better team.

I don't agree that every penalty conceded should be followed by a card. Awarding the penalty can be sufficient punishment. By the same token, if a ref doesn't award a penatly it doesn't therefore mean the attacking player dived and should be booked; sometimes players can come togther fairly, lose their footing, etc.
For me, the jury's out on whether it's right to send off keepers who bring down players in the box, epsecially if the player is running away from goal or is at a tight angle; again, awarding a penalty will suffice.
As for Barry last night, I actuallly agree with the sending off. The yellow card wasn't for the foul itself, but for persistant fouling, and Barry was at it a lot. However, as the OP said, Adam and Skrtel were far worse (that doesn't mean that Barry shouldn't have been sent off, but that Adam and Skrtel should have been punished).
Addams was just as guilty of persistent fouling yet he stayed on.
He dives and fowls and nothing happens to him, its incredible!
What about the deliberate handball from Skirtel?
It was a pen.
Skrtel should not have gone rushing in. We had 20 mins vs ten men and half a chance.
Toure was NOT scoring from there really.

You idiot. Open your eyes
can we now refer to such situations as DOGSOs....it has a ring to it
Dev, I read the "You Are The Ref" column on the Guardian website and DOGSO has become commonplace on there. I think it might even be called that in the referee's handbook?

The ball struck hand not hand striking ball
Have some cheese with your whine you myopic fool.
wow another comment removed by a livepool fan, you are so delicate!
Why dont you go wash your Suarez shirt.
I will enjoy top spot and 4 points of your lot with my wine, never mind I am sure next year will be you're year
No players were abused last night, good for Liverpool that makes a nice change.

My Granddad played for City, I've always liked them and I hope you do win the league.
He'd be ashamed to have you as a fan though, you're scúm.
Why am I sc um?? unlike you lot I wont go running to the mods, all you can do is name call.
I am ashamed of Liverpool FC over the last few weeks as are pretty much everyone who's not one of you're fans, so who's sc um here.
Liverpool used to have class an decorum and were a fine example to all clubs, not after Suarez though.
It's the handball in the first half that I can't understand. The hand was above the defenders head - nothing given. Then a few minutes later we get a free kick for the ball hitting the Liverpool players upper-arm!
LIke the OP says - all we want is consistency.
In todays Daily Mail the former ref G. Poll has said that Skirtle should have been booked for that challenge on Yaya, and as he had already been booked he should also have recieved a red card. However he also said that G. Barry was rightly sent off.
G. Poll just couldn't understand how the ref could have been so inconsistant with his decisaions.
NYoung10 - does he mention the handball?
I personally think that a penalty awarded and a yellow is enough punishment. Bringing in was it DOGSO just makes the decision even more difficult for the ref who is under enough pressure at that time. I am sure this causes more mistakes to be made with the ref trying to keep a full complement on the field.
Last night Mike Jones the ref made alot of monumental mistakes most of them in favour of Liverpool. At the start of the season all refs were told that if the arms are away from the body and are above waist and the ball strikes the arm then the result must be a penalty, which the ref failed to follow the rules. It also should have been a booking for the handball as well.
