Don't know what game you watched but Carrick played the full 90 mins.

Carrick played the full game.

Scholes came on for Nani and Anderson came on for Welbeck.

I didn't think Fat Jan deserved the education. So ignored it.

My bad. I watched the highlights and I could have sworn I saw Carrick go off for Scholes. It was Nani

I'm sure he's grateful for FJM's sympathy anyway.

To be fair, Carrick and Nani often get mistaken for each other.

And he was a joy to watch too

His passing yet again was crisp fast and accurate.

Thank god we had someone retaining possesion in the second half

Agreed, I kept my eye on Carrick most of the game and he was beautiful in every way. He broke up play, he retained the ball from City's players when they came to attack and nearly set up a goal for Welbeck with that cheeky lob, sadly it never worked. I love Carrick.

Now now, no need to get too excited. You revealed too much information there

Carrick is one of the most important players in our team. Unfortunately he doesn't have a fancy name or long hair so people slate him.

He's been a key player for us since his arrival, has had bad games (who doesn't) but is a vital player for us.

He is rubbish according to some of course, playing in midfield for a team that has won the league 4 out of 5 years and been to the champs league final thrice in the same period.

What a useless footballer

I always do too.

how people claim he always gives the ball away is beyond me

I'm a massive Carrick fan for a reason. Aside form an in-form Rooney he is easily the best passer of a football we have and he was like a conductor yesterday. Fantastic in my opinion

These people are plastic tw.ats with no respect for what SAF is doing with our squad. They just have a nasty addiction to trophies, I always tell these people to pop down the road and support the blue neighbours as their stadium needs filling.

Consistency-wise, this is shaping up as Carrick's best season for us. His first couple of seasons were good but somewhat in the shadow of Scholes and in 2007-8 Hargreaves. In 2008-9 when we went on the long unbeaten run and he starred when we played Inter off the park in the San Siro (but didn't score!) he started getting more credit for his importance - but then compared to now he was playing in front of an extremely effective back five and in a team that had Ronaldo stretching and frightening opposing teams.

This year amid all the injuries, rotations and inexperience in midfield and defence he's been a calming and controlling presence, and one of our most important players.

Naturally, some will decry him for failing to score lots of goals and make lots of assists, because they misunderstand what he is supposed to do.

Spot on

SAF joked that he was going to fine Carrick for being that far forward after he scored his goal

That alone should be enough to explain why Carrick doesn't score or assist much

He's been outstanding this season and in all honesty the back end of last season too.

Wait until he makes a rare error though. The fans will be on his back bigtime

Imagine if it had been Carrick who made the Scholes mistake yesterday? All his class performances would have been a distant memory for the plastics

He was top notch yesterday and gave a holding midfielder masterclass if people ever bother to actually take notice of him

And?

Does 10 men give him the ability to pass better?
Does 10 men give him the ability to position himself better?

The fact there were missing a player has no affect on an individuals performance whatoever

How dumb are you?

They dropped a man from the midfield into defence and then subbed a midifielder for a defender at half time. The whole Utd midfield had more time and space....Give a lump like Charlie Adam time and space and he'll pick holes in defences with great passing. Give him no time on the ball and he is less effective....same for Carrick as it would be for almost any midfielder.

You would have a point if Carrick had not been playing well for a lot of the season.

But he has probably been our most consistant player for the last two months.

Do not doubt that Carrick looks much better this season... my point is that any half decent CM will shine against 10 men

Look DS I get what you mean but Carrick's passing movement and all round play pretty much matched his peformances this season
Yes, against 10 men his job is easier but it wouldn't, for example, improve his ability to pass the ball would it. It was crisp and accurate all game
