Above the law?

Dont think it was anything mallicious, think he just intended to trip up the player to keep them down in the corner. Linesman should have done something, not sure where the ref was but don't imagine he would have been too close to it. Should have been a yellow yes, but doesnt take away the magic of the night

In answer to your question about players rolling round, unfortunately it seems players feel they need to do it to get the ref to notice something

Look at Messi. He should of been sent off against Real Madrid. Already on a yellow card and the ref called him over after he lunged in and was about to show him another yellow and put it back in his pocket.

No consistancy

He should have gone to Jail for a long time for his red card at world cup 2002

It was a foul, but the ref played advantage. A harsh ref could've given him a booking but I'm not sure how it could ever be considered a red card offence?

Lucky not to get a yellow, ref played on. That's it.

Your otherwise well-written article descends into the realms of ludicrosity when you start talking of red cards and retrospective 3-match bans though

I thought it was malicious as White won the ball with ease, then eased away from a Leggy Henry, yes it was a foul and at very least a yellow. White then took it past Arshavin and got hacked down seconds later, Arshavin got a yellow for something I personally think wasn't as bad as Henry.

The Leeds boy kicked him when he was in the corner, if you're banning one ban both.

My opinion is that I hate kicking out so it probably does warrant a ban but I'm more happy that Henry is showing so much passion. Perhaps if he keeps doing it my view will change!

To the person that says "ref played advantage" what;s stopping going back to give a card once play stops?

Does it not occur to you that he was showing to his less experienced team-mates how to close out a game in the dying stages? It's something that any experienced player and team would do , and has done for decades.

I actually enjoyed seeing that. I wish our players would do it more often rather than naively throwing everyone forward in the 88th minute and conceding last minute counter-attack goals. Something I'm sure you've probably berated our team for doing in the past too.

I haven't at all, we could easily keep the ball against Leeds without conceding, we should be above that. its like 3 bullys playing keep away from some poor kid. we should be above it

Yes Mr Mortimer you have it in one no more would you pull off Robbie Williams or his ilk performing to a packed arena than you would spoil the Henry show, less it were Lenny that is!! Ask any Irishman he has previous form. That said you could see the obvious admiration & awe from our young lad Tom Lees when Henry accepted his handshake at the end.

How could it have ever be considered a red card offense? It’s a dangerous tackle from behind… there is no intention of going for the ball. He has just kicked the opponent… I can see that being a red card – and it should have been a mandatory yellow.
Don’t get me wrong – I don’t think Henry is a malicious player… and I’m sure he wasn’t trying to injure the player – but nonetheless it was a kick out at the opponent. Had it been Joey Barton perhaps your interpretation would be different?
Or do you think it is OK for a player to swipe at someone? He tried taking him out… that should be a yellow card! The fact you think only a harsh ref would give a yellow is a worry! I just think it shows that reputations are more important than rules – to referees and to some fans.

Mr Tweedy – yes it didn’t ruin the magic of the night… It was perfectly written for him and I think everyone watching (bar Leeds fans) was willing him to score… and everyone watching, including Leeds fans appreciate that it was a world class finish from a true legend of the game!

I'm actually surprised by the level of bitterness and resentment shown by some individuals today.

The Leeds fans in the stadium stood and applauded Henry at the end. I guess they're just a different calibre of fan.

Nothing, the ref obviously didn't think it warranted it though as I said I think a yellow would've been harsh.

the word you are looking for is 'those' not 'them'. the fact you can't tell the difference, coupled with your previous comment says all we need to know about your neanderthal mind.

Darwin – I’m not asking for 3 match bans don’t get me wrong. I’ve not written this out of malice or anger – I’m just asking the question whether it was his reputation that saved him or not. Had the Leeds player rolled on the floor and pretended to be injured it could well have been a red card.
