LIW.. a little below the belt even for you mate
Aza - I agree I thought the Arshavin foul wasn't as bad as the Henry one!
"No I stand by them comments.
Name one who hasnt a chip."
I think you'll find in France they're called frites.
Arsene Wengooner - I quite agree it could have been a foul to Henry in the corner.
I don't want Henry banned- I think it's great that he's back in the premiership... it annoys me the ways some fans are though - had it been Henry kicked and the Leeds player sent off would anyone have said much about it? I don't think it'd be controversial even... it's a kick out - quite easily a red card. I don't understand why people think it couldn't be! Fans supporting their own club over facts perhaps? Well done for being reasonable! Do you think Henry will start against Swansea?
I know what I meant, but if I caused offence, am sorry
Come on people. It was a magical night, and even the officials were determined not to ruin it, at least for Henry. Even his goal was arguably offside, but the officials seemed to let common sense rule ahead of some stupid FIFA laws.
Even his goal was arguably offside
-----------------------------------
the fullback the opposite side was clearly playing him on.
Darwin - no bitterness from me. As I have said I think everyone appreciates his talent, he is world class! The kick out was punishable though... was it his reputation that stopped it being a yellow? Would you be happy for that incident to happen every match and not receive punishment?
TerraOx - don't think it was offside... that might be stretching it! lol
Not sure it's common sense to let players get away with things because of who they are either...
John Jenson - do you not think kicking someone is a yellow card? Really?
"it's a kick out - quite easily a red card. I don't understand why people think it couldn't be!"
Because I believe there is a place for common sense in reffing. If you really think that's a red card offence then people we'd have red cards in every game. He hardly lashed out violently, most strikers will get kicked worse than that about 10 times every match.
If a Leeds player had done the same thing to Henry and got a red card it would've been ludicrous.
It was Aidy White who he lashed out at, if White hadnt have been fouled moments later by Rosicky then Henry probably wlda been booked, It was a lash out and he should be penalised, as for Leeds, we were simply poor as usual, huge improvement needed, as for Arsenal dreadful is the word id use
so dreadful leeds barely got out of their own half....
I said arguably, not definitely offside. Some silly linemen would have given it you know.
For the record, OP, my bitterness comment wasn't aimed at you, just some of the other idiots gracing our board today.
And TerraOx, I think you need to watch it again, it was clearly onside. Not even in doubt.
Somma
And you could see on his face he was just trying to win the ball back, not hurt the player, but out of principle it should have been a yellow, but no way a red. If it was red then so many cards would be given out.
And of course people are going to be kinder on him. Psychologically is must be horrible for refs
Never offside in a million years, White strayed from the Defensive Line.
John Jenson – I think a player with a different reputation, and if the opponent goes down and rolls around, could easily get a red card for that. Remember raising your hands now is a red card… showing someone in the chest could get you sent off – and the commentators just say “You know you can’t do that anymore”. It is quite easy to interpret the challenge as reckless… it is definitely from behind… I don’t think in today’s climate that the challenge is that far away from a red card. I remember the reaction to some injuries Arsenal have suffered and the general consensus seemed to be that anything dangerous was worthy of punishment and that punishment should be severe.
Let’s forget the red card and ban idea for a second though.
Henry has deliberately fouled him – in an attempt to stop a breakaway. Thus it is a professional foul and a mandatory yellow card. Would you at least agree with that?
Why did Henry not get a yellow card? The challenge merits one for sure… was it his reputation? And are you happy with decisions being based on reputation rather than physical fact?
Whether we are happy about it or not, we can't do anything, and it's been like that for ages.
Darwin - fair enough - sorry!
There are idiotic comments... but I think a comment saying it isn't a yellow is pretty stupid.
Some people think they have to defend their player against all attacks or they aren't a proper fan! I think an Arsenal fan should be dleighted Henry is back - but should also be able to see that he got away with something yesterday. It should have been a yellow for sure... and I know if other players did what he did there would be calls for a red.
Some Irish fans might be asking how the bloke is even allowed to play football. Arsenal fans clearly love him, but I know what I will remember him for.
Valentine – I don’t think saying “You can’t give that because then there’d be loads of reds” is a logical argument. If something is a foul it is a foul… if a referee sees a penalty offense it should be a penalty – he shouldn’t say “Well you’ve already got one today so I’m not giving it”. One, two, three… however many times it happens it’s a penalty. Just as however many times a dangerous tackle goes in it could be a red. The players know the rules – it’s up to them to not break them, not for the referees to let them off!
If you get caught speeding… do they say “Everyone does 40 in a 30 so we’ll let you off”?
It could have been a red… had it been Arsenal v Man Utd in a title deciding match and the crowd het up. If Paul Scholes kicks out at Henry – with no intention of winning the ball – would you really be as lenient in your judgment? Honestly?
Valentine - I'm not saying you can. I'm just asking if you are happy with that happening - and will you agree it is wrong?
I have to be honest this handball thing in the wolrd cup doesn't bother me at all... I regard it as a bit like diving when not fouled, if you get away with it, it's wrong but not that bothered - anyone see Barca vs Espanyol at the weekend?? Messi did the exact same thing still think he's a great player, and Henry was a great player, it won't make me think any different
Tuscany - I agree he's a great player... the point of the article is that he was treated differently because of who he is - and that can't be right can it?
