Probably the best article in a while

4 squad places? But that again means we need to sell first and buy later

posted on 11/1/12

1. Bentley (7m)
2. Jenas (4m)
3. Pavlyuchenko (10m)
4. Corluka (7m)
5. Dos Santos (6m)
6. Bassong (8m)
7. Pienaar (4m)
8. Alnwick (500k)
9. Gomes (5m if we have 2 year contract extension clause as reported, otherwise 2m in Jan or free in the summer)

===========================

Who do you think's buying all those players, Liverpool?!

Hang on.......

posted on 11/1/12

Bentley is on a free transfer this summer and I would expect the same for Alnwick

Didi

Getting even 3 of those players sold now and then the rest in the summer would be ideal

surely we go for a top keeper to be our number one. friedel goes as number 2. and probably keep alnwick as number 3.

cudicini and gomes move on

posted on 11/1/12

I'd rather have Defoe in goal then Alnwick

I'm leaving this to you boys but I'm watching with interest. A very good thread.

What about Khumalo?

I reckon Cudicini could be our number one

We desperately need to shift some players, and these fall into 2 categories.

Those that shouldn't be hard to shift if we don't hold out for so much money: Gio, Jenas, Corluka, Bassong, Pienaar.

Those that will be a nightmare to try and get rid of: Bentley, Pav, Alnwick (why is he still here?), Gomes.

Im pretty sure we have been trying to get rid of Gio, Jenas, Bassong for over a year now, but who is going to take them? We only just managed to get Jenas out on loan

Forgot about Khumalo

Why do we buy these players we're never going to need!

I think we have the option of a 2 year extension on Bentley's contract and I see Levy taking that option rather than letting him leave for free.

Also, I don't think those prices are unreasonable compared to what we paid for the players and what their value to mid-table clubs would be.

RRP, there's definitely interest in Gio as clubs keep making bids for him. The problem is we accepted a large bid from Udinese, but Gio wanted to go to Sevilla who made a poor offer.

Jenas would be ideal for a newly promoted club.

Exactly Chronic - he was signed at the same time as Pienaar

swansea.. he can pass back and side all day there

Mouse - I hear Sevilla are still interested but apparently we are after close to £8 million for him

We are sort of suffering from what Man City have at the moment, the players we want to sell are on too higher wages for the teams that we could sell them too..unless its QPR of course

posted on 11/1/12

Only problem with Jenas is his wages are a bit out of reach for most newly promoted clubs. QPR would have been ideal for him.

RRP, I heard Udinese bid something ridiculous for him, like 13m of something, but Gio wouldn't go.

Really pished off Levy apparently.

i think it was closer to 10 mill and i can imagine Levy in that situation

Mouse - Yeah thats what i read too, but i also read we were reluctant to let Gio go after selling Crouch AND Keane, because it would leave us short...but £13 million...WHAT AN OFFER

Gio actually came out and said he was angry because Levy wouldnt let him leave

posted on 11/1/12

Gio was angry because Levy wouldn't let him leave for Sevilla. What Gio couldn't grasp is that Sevilla's bid was half that of Udinese's.

That came out yesterday and worries me with regards to Pienaar. I just don't think he is what we are looking at anymore especially with CL hopefully next year.

posted on 11/1/12

Mouse - Ah, that would explain it! Surely he has to go now anyway, expect another last minute deal with him

Harry will say good things about any player, i dont honestly believe he thinks Pienaar has a future

posted on 11/1/12

And in terms of Gio I thought after his display for Mexico in the WC I thought he would be a star but sadly hasn't really worked out

posted on 11/1/12

Gazman, that's what Harry does. He's just covering himself in case we can't shift him. If Harry said that we were trying to shift him, and we couldn't, that would make their working relationship thereafter a bit difficult.
