I do believe that he has power and influence in the upper echilons of our country, that no man, especially a non elected non Brit, should have.

"Only if you allow/believe in anything the media report."

No, no, no. How much any one individual is influenced is fairly insignificant - as long as they have 'control' of a majority, and they always will have, that is plenty. Whether you personally read the paper or not, your opinions will be influenced by the media at large I'm afraid.

It's easy enough to see it on these very boards, the opinions of teams and players is all too often influenced far more by _how_ their activities are reported than the activities themselves. Every day of the week.

"could influence me in my day to day living and my life, but it certainly has no kind of influence on the way I live my life."

So do you not watch the news or read the papers then? Online or in print?

Alright, calm down 'chief', I'm sure you're different to everyone else on the planet and exist in a bubble - although your own statement (which I "Hmmm'd" would suggest otherwise.

I'll give you the first bit but I'm intelligent and cynical enough not to let the media affect anything in my life. You could say that their influence over politics could influence me in my day to day living and my life, but it certainly has no kind of influence on the way I live my life.

-----------------------------------------------

That's fair enough, but it's not really the influence over you or me that's the issue.

It's the influence over the politicians who make the decisions and therefore over government policy.

Murdoch has been in bed with senior politicians since Thatcher, and you don't have to look far to see a rather malign influence over policy that has adversely affected millions.

This man and his organisations need to be reigned in. Otherwise, the only news we'll be getting will be Fox, which has already stated that 'accuracy' should not be a priority when reporting stories.

That is exactly what you said, I used copy and paste and everything. And you're kidding yourself if you think your opinions and views are not constantly changing based on what you read/experiance, it's what our brains do. I mean how would you form an opinion of fighting in Afghanistan, for example, would you insist on travelling out there and meeting all those involved only to ignore what they've said? Really? Are you that arrogant/deluded*?

* Two words that are overused on these boards, mainly because most don't seem to know what they mean - but you are doing a great impression of both.

Happy days!

Frederick, My point is everyone is swayed by the media whether they know it or not!

We all know the media sucks so why would any of us believe it?

"Can you not see the difference between reading or watching the media, and letting it influence you?"

Can YOU not see that 'letting it influence you' is completely unavoidable. Even by choosing to ignore an opinion, it has influenced you

Fred, if you were a monk living in Tibet then id say you're not influenced by the media but since you're not, id say you probably are influenced by the media, whether you want to believe it or not. everyone is influenced to some extent.. .

let me ask you this.. whats your views on the tragedy on 9/11..? who caused it? why did it happen?

"I'm aware of both sides of it and know how these things work."

Then you're more arrogant/deluded than I thought. You understand how this works, and claim you're somehow immune simply because you 'understand' it.

I don't like to raise my views on this but despite the general belief being that it was a terrorist attack, I still think the American government might have had something to do with it, because of things that have been pointed out to me in discussions about the topic.

...and no doubt those discussion were with members of Al Queda, or the CIA themselves, or people who witnessed the attacks first hand.
