Exactly Mr Pearce, except I've been simply saying 'experiance' - but I'm glad someone's got my point.
I think I'm starting to get what you're trying to say, Cat.
But what about if somebody takes articles on a similar subject, take the Suarez issue recently that are contrasting and forms their own opinion. Is that being influenced by the media, or is it forming an educated opinion based on different accounts of the story?
Considering I can read English, French, German, Italian and at a stretch, Spanish articles, meaning I can read articles from the UK, France, Senegal, Canada, the US, Argentina, Uruguay, Germany, Austria, Italy etc etc etc and they all have differing opinions on the same issues. I'd say I'm forming my own opinion based on a variety of accounts of the story.
"Is that being influenced by the media, or is it forming an educated opinion based on different accounts of the story?"
It is both.
"....they all have differing opinions on the same issues. I'd say I'm forming my own opinion based on a variety of accounts of the story."
So would I.
Fred Bassett
Very true.
But as you were not directly involved in the incident you have based your opinion on external third party resources.
Granted if you have read opinion and comment from numerous sources then it is reasonable to conclude that you view will be a measured one.
IMO the crux of this issue is that everyone is influenced by the media but it is how as an individual you interpret the information provided.
Back to footy anyone
Reckon you lot can beat us at Anfield, Mr Pearce?
Oi, this is a thread about Murdoch, how very dare you bring up the off topic subject of football
"IMO the crux of this issue is that everyone is influenced by the media but it is how as an individual you interpret the information provided."
Which is what I've been saying all along, but was being told point-blank that Fred and Mr 4Times somehow acquired their information without that 3rd party and I was somehow redefining their whole lives by saying that this was probably not the case. I'm over the abuse now though.
Sorry HenrysCat I think I misunderstood where you were going with the topic .
No probs. I enjoyed the cut and thrust of a lively chat.
Fred
I wouldn't back our current team to beat anyone at the moment! Would gladly take a point.
Hopefully we'll be on a high after winning the cup final, we need a confidence boost right about now.
What's the odds for the CCup finalists? And how are Cardiff doing in their league?
Though league form could go out of the window in a one off like this.
Read Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomski for a brilliant analysis of how the media create a set of accepted norms within a society to suit their agenda. We have to accept and live by those norms unless we are prepared to stand out from the crowd.

TOOR is doing that at the moment on a few threads and being lambasted for his opinions.

If we play well, we'll beat Cardiff, we have more quality then them (just ) but you're right, all form and quality goes out the window and it's whoever holds their luck best in a cup final.
The acronym would work so much better if he'd called himself there's only one Liverpool
