There were lots of rumours shortly after the window shut that Modric had been offered a 100k contract.
Regardless, it must make him smile to watch Chelsea
Hi Bales
You're not kidding mate
Hello there Squid
I tend to agree with you that there may have been some form of condition, that we excepted that a player of his class should be playing in the CL, and as such, if we didn't qualify this season then we would let him go, but just not this summer.
My big concern is that Harry is a key part, the players obviously like him, and if he does go, the replacement will be key to keeping someone like Modric at the club. Any signs of settling for a lesser option will be seen as a step backwards. I have said all season that returning back to CL football was key to keepiong this squad together and I still maintain that.
Hopefully he will see we are going in the right direction, and a good FA cup run will hopefully make him realise that playing for us is where his future lies.
Yeah he must be glad Levy held tight on him
31 .......excellent comments and very hard to argue with
Yep , we often talk about defining moments and for once this Summer will actually be one
Bales, I heard that rumour too, but the reason Modric hasn't signed it yet was down to Harry's uncertain future.
It could just be speculation though, and he still has four years left on his contract so was that offer just a pay rise or a pay rise and an extension? I can't see why it would have been just an increase as surely he would have signed it as it wouldn't have increased the length. Im hoping that it was just a press rumour that we had offered it.
There could have been some sort of clause in it ....maybe he'd have to agree to financial penalties if he asked for a move or something
Modric must be thanking his lucky stars he has escaped the joke that is chelsea fc, not only are chelsea rubbish but they are a club in freefall whilst the future is bright at tottenham. I don't think modric would of fit in at chelsea anyway, they don't play good football like us. Hopefully luka will be playing for us next season, can't see him wanting to leave now
The truth is probably somewhere inbetween the press speculation and our own. Either way he's ours
Hi Don
Naaawwww Think the Chelsk are not good enough for him now ......Perhaps Levy will put the frightners on Harry to make him stay , after all Danny is the dark lord
Squid. This summer, well this summer.
Its going to have to be the biggest summer in my years as a supporter.
We have Manager issues - we hill, won't he, who will replace.
This also runs down to what coaching staff will follow if Harry does leave. Frankly I feel we have a good setup at the moment. though I understand a new manager will want his own personel in, it will be such a shame to break this up for what, if we are honest is a poor national side.
On top of that we have quality teams looking at our players, needing to retain them all (first teamers, still some dead wood to be cleared).
However - I think we are going into the summer in a good position, we haven't spent much money on the team for the past few years, streamlined and offloaded fringe players that were once first teamers so more than likely on a good wage. This window just gone we did some more and got two old pro's that will know that they are nearing the end of their playing days so won't grumble about not playing week in/out. These players that won't be a noose around our necks for two to four years but for the short term will help.
With plans for the stadium and with Levy in charge we seem to heading in the right direction, so this summer needs a good strong push, but if it goes well it could start to cement us up there for a while to come.
Its going to be and exciting but a helluva nervy summer.
I have to say it guys, I'm fearing the summer... as in Redknapp/New Manager even if we do get CL.
If HR leaves us for the crappy England job then I fear we won't get the right manager, and possibly some of the star players wanting to go with him i.e Modric.
WHO IS THE RIGHT MANAGER ?
Don, how do you think that Chelsea would have been this year with Modric in the team? Personally whilst they still have issues all over the park, I think he would have done well there, and even actually would have played balls that Torres (of old) would have thrived on. They need creativity, and we all know Modric is just that.
WelshWizardBale
Wonder what Modric would think of Bilic? Personally we need someone with a name. I don't follow much European football so outside of our isla I can't name many managers that are realistic targets.
Liverpool always used to promote from within and TBH that's what kept them at the top for so long
Harry has put everything into place I'm all for giving one of his team the job and keep the whole set up going
I understand that Squid, but would Harry try and nick any for the England setup?
Would it be a big enough pull for some of the players we'd want.
Its a shame Chris Hughton wasn't given a longer run in the Prem, as I would have liked to have seen more of him
WHO IS THE RIGHT MANAGER ?
---------
Inevitably any talk of the future comes down to this at the moment. Two of the most obvious candidates - Hiddink and O'Neill - have recently got jobs. I'm sure Levy has a plan and i've learned to have faith in him.. my personal preference would be Mourinho though.
Yeah i know he might be a bit conservative in his style but I think we need someone of his experience to manage the squad between the league and CL. Not to mention keeping players like Modric happy.
Squid - interesting approach that hasn't been discussed much, Tim Sherwood for manager then?
@ 31 moments, i don't think luka would of suited them mate, modric is a quality player that thrives off good footballing teams, chelsea have not been a good footballing side for years. Its not just scoring but chelseas problem is also their defence, modric might of improved them but he certainly wouldn't of been their saviour. It don't take a rocket scientist to see that chelsea are a bunch of hasbeens with an aeging squad that's getting worse and worse each week....luka has had the luckiest escape of his career
31 ....Mate we are in the driving seat regards Harry taking over with England , we just put that he cannot take any of his staff fromWHL and if he doesnt like it he can lump it
I dont think he does much of the training and Bond has been around Harry for long enough to know how to handle the players
Bales, if you asked me that a few years ago, I would have been game to give him a go, but I think this is such a crucial time for us we can't afford to make a mistake.
I accept though that everyone is a gamble, we could get Jose and implode and Sherwood could lead us to glory.
Don - After watching Chelsea today i'm convinced that AVB - while tactically astute - is the problem there. Yes, there are obvious problems with players coming to the end of their careers but it still doesn't excuse the lack of passion and teamwork on display.
Bales ......Bond for me with Tim moving to his assistant
Harry and Kevin have been together for years and Kev's dad was always involved with Harry
of course any change is a risk but I think this would be the "smoothest" option and these guys know how Spurs work
I agree bales left foot but i still believe chelsea are not the club and side they were a few years ago
@ Don, I accept all that, I don't mean to suggest that they would be doing much better, but I do still think with Modders they porbably would be closer to 3rd than they currently are.
@ Squid, I hope you're right, you have a few more years on my so I'll trust your take on it. As said before Im much more the glass is half empty.
31, Squid - to be fair I don't see Sherwood as a realistic option. Yes it's going to be a step into the unknown whoever takes over, but you have to stack the odds in your favour
Don - you're right too, they need a SAF to sort that mess out!
