FFP IMO will turn out to be a complete farce with it being no more than a gentlemens agreement.
Derbys current wage bill is 55% of turnover with Forest about 107%, I have no idea what Leicester would be?!?
BTW Derby still think that 55% is to high!!! which will mean we are severly handicapped to other championship teams. e.g. glick saying in the DET the other day that players like Billy sharp is out of Derbys league...........WTF he is a championship player and Derby are supposed to be a big club in this division
No points deduction or fine will be in place for breaking these rules so what is the point?
These people moaning about lack of investment from GSE....would you like them to invest more if it also meant the season tickets prices doubled? Billy Sharp wanted £15/week....why would anyone pay that unless they had a decent chance of going up....
Apologies for the brief response (at work/on phone) but this once great club is going nowhere under the current board/tenure. End of.
Do you think we should be paying people £15k/week then...Look at the state Portsmouth and Forest are in
Bushwacker that 55% figure is based on the turnover with parachute payments ... which we no longer have.
Strider ok fair enough but we are getting to the point when Derby County can only afford to have around 3 - 4 championship proven players in their squad when they were purchased.
WE ARE IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP! and supposed to be a big club at this level.
Strider
Are you trying to tell me that all other clubs in the championship with big wager bills, virtually everyone, will go bust! Dont make me laugh
Sorry bottom paragraph meant for Amber
I would definitely think that the top 10 are easily paying around that wages for at least one of their players.
Bush,
I didn't say all the teams with bigger wages will go bust....But we have enough experience of having these players on high wages and it didn't bring success under Jewell...
I would like to know how teams have a bigger wage bill than us in the championship tho'...and of those teams...how many sell cheaper seson tickets or match than us....
Forest have a higher wage biil than us but they have a bigger income from their home games than us..
we can't afford to pay players £15/wk....we was paying players like Leacock, Varney, etc...that sort of wages
sadly 'supposed to be a big club' doesn't automatically give us a licence to print money though Bush. I understand your frustrations, and feel investment in a 'game-changer' -which we don't really have at the moment would tip the 'nearly' results in our favour. But, as tempting as it is to think, 'well, Portsmouth can get away with it, why not us? - I find that avenue an unpalatable one to travel.
Mojaca....Sometimes it makes me wonder what "big club" means...
Good home crowds?
Stadiums with a 20k+ capacity?
High gate reciepts?
Regularly in the top flight?
we have the 1st 2.
Strider - How much do we pay GSE?
Forest only have a bigger income from home games because they have fewer season ticket holders.
If as a club we have any ambition other than surviving in the bottom half of the Championship then we need to take risks. We do not have a quality striker or midfielder so we either have to sign them or hope for someone to emerge from the academy.
The only significant investment in players undertaken by Clough is for defenders. The attacking players have been cheap but failures, e.g. Porter, or loans and failures, e.g. Moore and Noble. Verdict is still out on Tyson and Maguire but doesn't look promising. Robinson has been the most successful but his only assets are speed and effort. Unlikely to be a consistent scorer.
Spartacus....
we have more season ticket holders than forest but the cost of a season ticket there is higher than Derby. My mate was paying more than £200 more than me...
I do agree tho' this summer its time to invest in a decent striker....but do you break the wage structure by paying someone like Sharpe £15k/week.... Sharpe has never done anything at a big club....He was dreadful at Shef Utd... I'm interested in seeing how he gets on at S'ton.
That 55% was also based on having some very high earners too.
Yes we do have cheap season tickets second only to Cardiff but there are other forms of revenue such as sponsorship, rent from shops, merchandise and I am sure there are more. We are lacking some experience in areas of the team and you don't get those players without paying for them. I see no ambition and i think the table supports my point.
Smithe,
just out of interest which clubs in our league do you think are run better than Derby? ie ambition, investment....I've listed 2.
Amber if you are talking about which board are making the biggest profit Derby have to be up there as we pay very little in all departments but if you are talking ambition and investment you have to look at the likes of Southampton, Leicester, Hull, etc. all teams who have bought proven players at this level. Derby have been rare to do this.

When does that fair play rule come out???????
When Colin Gibson asked Nigel........ Nigel said well Colin when it does come around, you and me will not be around
Amber if I go out with a mate for a few drinks and I buy nearly all the drinks it doesnt make my mate responsable just because he doesnt part with his cash
If Leicester don't go up which I doubt they will after paying so much money they will have to come to a decision like every other club in the championship has to and that is "Where did it go wrong and what can we do to improve?" at the moment see how much cheaper can they go to stay in the same position as last year. Unfortunately we don't have a chairman like Dave Whelan for Wigan who wants to leave a legacy behind regardless of the money he loses.
It does Bush if he only has the money to buy in wetherspoons and you've taken him to the pitch and piano..
GSE Out
