And he is clearly better than mediocre. Just because he had a slump in form when the entire team did, that does not make him a bad player. Everyone has a bad patch of form.

Henderson was what 20, playing week in week out in the PL, can't have been easy for one so young. He was being touted as one of the future bright stars of the English game in the first half of last season, fair enough he wasn't as good second half of the season but he still has one of the highest chance creation stats in the PL last season, loosing Bent in Jan was a big blow to Sunderland, that IMO caused the poor form more than anything else.

It's easy to write him off but what's the deal with so many English men bashing one of their own, it's based entirely on club rivalry not on the lads individual performances. I honestly can't think of another country where they deride their own so much, for the sake of the national side would you not be happy that a young English player has been bought by one of the bigger clubs who can challenge to get back in Europe. National pride?

I liked what I saw v Spain very much of Henderson.

But at the end of the day deep lying defensive mid, covering for centrebacks isn't his position, right mid is.

He played DM for 240 minutes and we conceded one goal with him on the pitch. You can hardly blame him for the results after 3 matches of hoof it from the back, horrendous English football.
