Just pulling your wooden leg, Henrik.

I agree with you completely.
In fact maybe let them have it all and Celtic can do their own deal.

Perhaps if the smaller clubs charged the visiting Celtic and Rangers fans the same as they charge visiting fans from other clubs then a fairer distribution of TV money could be discussed...

"Celtic and RANGERS will always have a financial advantage anyway, due to the gate money both clubs receive."

Of course, aye.

give them nothing

Its us on TV

its us with the crazy KO times

That's spot-on Henrik

As you say, Rangers and Celtic will always have huge financial advantage through the far greater numbers who pay through the turnstile. The game is dying at the moment, that can't be questioned. If changes are not made more and more people will simply drift away.

Sharing the TV revenue will create a more competitive and attractive league. Just now the OF take 50% of the TV money, the other 50% is distributed to the other ten clubs. That is a hugely uneven distribution of income.

£80,000,000/5= £16,000,000 to SPL per season.

£4,000,000 to Celtic
£4,000,000 to Rangers.

£800,000 to the other ten?

It is but only because other get more than they deserve

Distribute it based on games Sky WANT ON and show.

Maybe Celtic and Rangers should set up their own TV deals then we'll see how much the rest of the clubs make on their own.

Maybe not eh?

posted on 14/3/12

That is exactly the deal as I understand it. It is very difficult to compete in those circumstances. Impossible to put out a real quality product

Here's an idea.

You know when you watch matches from every ground except Celtic Park and Ibrox, there are thousands of empty seats.
If the idiot beggars who run the other clubs (drum-roll) "sold" tickets for those esats to Celtic and Rangers fans their wee diddy stadia would be sold out every time.

But why do that when you can blame your incompetence on the O/F

posted on 14/3/12

If the smaller clubs have more money to work with, then they may be able to cut the ticket money a bit without killing the club and attendance could improve.

probably 799999 more that they deserve

i agree with you henrik. also the gate money used to be split, hence the days when i stood in the jungle against rangers (all ticket) 61000 people in the "stadium"

we won 2-0 then played aberdeen a few days later, pay at the gate, it felt easily 25000 on top of the gate compared to the rangers game, sunday post read it as 47000.

no wonder our auld board used to get accused of adjusting the gate

posted on 14/3/12

An even split of the gate is totally unfair. The OF have by far the bigger crowds and therefore their home games are their entitled income. The TV money is a totally different area and there is an opportunity to look at it intelligently

Arabian Knight.

posted on 14/3/12

it would be a couple of hundred k of a drop for the old firm (dunno exact figures) whereas the increase felt by the other clubs could make a fair difference to them

Arab

Its the same principle

Or are Sky stupid to show every Rangers and Celtic away game when the could show Utd v St J.

IF YOUR ON YOU SHOULD GET PAID

The thing that royally pashes me off on the TV front, is that every spl game shown on TV is usually of OF away games at empty stadiums (bar the away ends) why can't they show some games from Celtic Park or Ibroke considering we are the main attraction.

No wonder the English think the spl is a waste ground when they flick over and watch games being played in empty stadia, on sub-standard pitches..

posted on 14/3/12

Juke, why don't the eejits running ruining would fit that better.
But I digress. Why don't they sell those tickets to O/F fans. and make their own money?

Arab dude, can you answer that?

posted on 14/3/12

Queb, slightly unclear on the question. Are you saying that the smaller clubs should increase the allocation for the OF when the visit?

posted on 14/3/12

I actually agree with the OP. Part of the reason that the NFL does so well is because it is ultra competitive. It's TV rights dwarf the EPL. Their model of having a central fund for everything distributed equally is the only true way to achieve sporting equality.

Whilst that in the SPL is unrealistic a more equal sharing of resources is the way forward.

One of the things that I hope happens with Rangers being in administration is a shake up of the SPL, an end to the 11-1 voting rule and an expanded SPL.

posted on 14/3/12

An expanded spl with equal tv money would mean even less income for teams so that's a non-starter.

Bluetoon as always mate, I think the voting structure is the largest obstacle to improving the league. Having an 11-1 system in not common in business practice and it is hindering development.

When are the predictor cup leagues going up mate?
