The only way to make the SPL competitive is to have teams play each other twice instead of 4 times. In a normal season you would expect a team like Hearts or Dundee United to mibbe win a couple of the 8 games against the OF and mibbe a couple of draws if generous meaning that there is a 12 point gap before you even consider other matches. Playing each other twice means the league will be more competitive and potentially a non OF team could win the league.
Having the OF win the league for the next 30 years without interruption will only kill Scottish football.
I'd rather see the SPL abolished, and all clubs under one governing body, and get rid of rules such as the 3 under 21 players in each match day squad, and loans between teams in the top tier would not be allowed. The league should also be expanded, but can't see that happening.
AK, hopefully tomorrow. Was on the road all day today and it's been a bonkers week.
Whilst that in the SPL is unrealistic a more equal sharing of resources is the way forward.

BTG How you doing?
The only unequal thing about the distribution of TV money is the other get far too much
If you are never on why should you get any money.
Bruce Willis got millions for the Die Hard movies because people wanted to watch.
All the wee obscure actors should share in this even though no cant wants to watch them..
If your on you get paid
Arabian, increase the allocations, yes why not?
Bluetoon, that works in NFL, because they all have beautiful stadia. The teams invest in their product.
In fact I saw a documentary where the NFL has actually told all teams that when they build new stadia they must be on a Nw - SE axis. For the sun and shadows probably for cameras.
£29 for Easter Rd.
£28 for Tynecastle
£25 for Tannadice
+++++++
We give them enough money...especially in transfer fees to.
Well, at least Celtic do
No worries Bluetoon. You guys are right about change, Scottish football is effectively dead if we continue down the same road for another ten years.
Off for my tea. catch ye
Queb, I can only speak for my club. On Sunday there were 200 spare seats in the United end, that's not a huge amount. If we were to have given them to Celtic that would have meant implementing segregation in the George Fox stand. This would mean higher policing costs which I don't think would outweigh the money from selling a couple of hundred extra tickets. That's just us though, I think some clubs like ICT and Killie have gone down this route already.
Definitely off for my tea now
Duke Doing Good
We are about to have the longest uninterrupted run of OF title wins ever. Unless we do something to level up the playing field no non-OF team will win the SPL meaning a whole generation if fans grow up never having had their team ever compete for a league title.
That will kill Scottish football, slowly but surely.
Quebec, I agree with your idea completely.
Since the away ticket money goes to the home team anyway, then they should be open to the travelling Old Firm supporters.
BlueToonGer.
Agree completely, regarding the monotonous four games against the same club a season.
I can't believe people are actually saying the money shouldnt be more evenly spread out. Have a look at the points gap between top and bottom of the SPL and then have a look at every other league in the UK, the gap in the SPL is the biggest much larger than even the championship which has double the teams.
As for filling the empty seats, having thousands more OF fans and smaller home ends will create money yes but will drive more non OF fans away and every game will just become a 'home game' for the OF. A better idea surely is to spead the money out, the league becomes more competitive, the empty seats get filled up (with home fans) and everyone performs better in europe, i mean its not rocket science really.

Bluetoon funny when I see berz talking about the 9IAR that you won nobody gave a fiddler's about "the state of Scottish football".
but westcoat you want more money but how can you justify that.
You want TV money when you are almost never on
How is that fair?
duke i agree with the other teams. the old firm taking a bit of a hit to allow the other clubs to flourish a little can only be good for the league. we're always moaning we're sick of the dross
Ban TV and be done with this silly argument. The OF have an unfair advantage due to getting more tv money and more exposure. 27 years since a team outwith the OF won the league! Yes, we have larger supports, but that doesn't give us a divine right to more tv money. The SPL needs a Hearts or a Dundee Utd to win the league. It would invigorate Scottish football. Change the voting structure as it benefits no one other than the OF. This self interest has damaged Scottish football.

Perhaps mmmm though Im not sure
This 2 million we would give away
That is perhaps 2 or 3 class players
Now that would have little impact on our SPL challenge but are we willing to drop even further down the euro ranking
Those 2 or 3 players could be a big loss at this level
FFS! Yer no wantin the Gers tae take anither hit
Relentless basterts
Quebec I was 9 to 18 during 9 in a row and didn't know much better. I do know now that the lack of competition in the SPL with only either half winning the title will slowly but surely kill Scottish football.
It's now 27 years since a non-OF team won the league and at this rate it will be another 27 without them winning the league.
Interesting responses guys, an issue we can all debate without tinted spectacles, I suppose.
We need radical changes. We have a league where the team in eighth could have more points than the team in fifth. Where two clubs will dominate for the eternity of Scottish Football and most clubs' main objective is survival.
We seriously need to look at pricing and placing our younger players on well thought out contracts, you know contracts with clauses that prevent Npower Championship teams stealing players for rock bottom prices; where what they pay for the player will be a tenth of what they are worth almost overnight.
Money or no money...the best players will always want to play for the OF
It was 20 odd years of OF dominance before Aberdeen won it in the 80's
play offs are great we should have them
The split I feel is good particularly in a 2 horse race
Imagine without and one had Dunf and Hibs the other Hearts and Motherwell in the last games
The only alternative is add 6 teams... can we do that??
