Anderson Paak's Ventura dropped.
Schoolboy Q album out tonight, first body of work for 3 years. Not a big fan of him tbf but reckon he’s to most of your guy’s taste, still like a couple of songs on it
Gibbs and Madlib dropped a gem.
anyone listened to dreamville album yet?
Not yet but will do today. Should be good. All the Dreamville artists are talented would urge anyone to go through the likes of Bas, Cozz, JID and Ari Lennox (RnB) discography
hmm most of them sound like budget j.coles to me, and ive seen a few of them live supporting cole. Gonna give it a second listen now.
Very true stylistically the rappers are similar to J Cole. I’m a massive fan of his as well but yeah if you don’t like J Cole for the common criticism of basically being boring the Dreamville rappers may not be for you.
Actually on the subject, I’ve always been a J Cole fan but he did go through this period where he just seemed to take himself way too seriously. No features on the albums, he went a year without featuring on anyone else’s album, literally no social media presence.. like yeah be serious and be the rapper known for his lyrics and storytelling but he lost any semblance of just ‘having fun with it’. Kendrick for example still does the odd freestyle, vapid but enjoyable guest verse or even a pop song feature.
Anyway I’m glad since maybe 2018 he’s opened himself up more in all sense of the word. Collaborations with artists you never thought you’d see, trying new styles on his features, fashion shoots..I think all this plays into why I think ROTD3 will be a good one
Agree with most of what you said. I can't remember a project of coles ive liked in a few years now. Probably seen him like 5 or 6 times, but haven't felt the urge the last few times he's been over. Hes so talented but did take a very personal, imo, un-relatable approach to his latest work and little replay value.
ive liked most his single releases though. just not his main records
Had a listen. Think it is too long, starts off excellently and then even got my ears I think it gets too repetitive and should have some livelier tracks in the second half. Of course it was probably not targeted for such superficial listening but hey you like what you like. Would still recommend listening through it all, chilled, track by track..that type of album.
When has Cole ever sounded hungry on a track? When has he ever rapped like he wants to be the best rapper alive?
That's where the boredom tag comes from.
He's more obsessed with lecturing hip hop instead of making great hip hop himself.
He raps like being in the studio is his 9 to 5 job.

I think his features and freestyles are pretty fire. But yeah his new album is another lacklustre, generic album. No standouts.
I think middle child is hardest Cole song I heard recently and even those bars are baby thighs soft.
That Palmolive track is just majestic.
Inspectah Deck cements his position as my favourite Wu Tang rapper with his new release Chamber No. 9
Decks 5 best verses?
1 - Triumph (Wu Tang Forever)
2 - C.R.E.A.M. (36 Chambers)
3 - Guillotine (Swordz) - (Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...)
4 - Above the Clouds (Gangstarr - Moment of Truth)
5 - For Heavens Sake (Wu Tang Forever)
They scored an Emmy nomination
It was a good watch. They have a new dramatised series out soon as well.
I like the soundtrack for that series as well.
Yeah, although I liked 8 Diagrams, A Better Tomorrow etc the more recent stuff is better.
Considering the whats going up in the NY underground scene atm...it's the perfect time for them to release a full length project.
Ghostface is in charge of who produces the tracks this time - should be interesting. Not sure when they plan to release it.
