DJ, Take a Wu Tang album, add some Auto-tune and fanfares to the beat and thats 90% of modern rap beats

I will tell you who is relatively recent and decent. CYNE!

A perfect example of Kanye making a ridiculous sample sound incredible.

This song is why i believe in 21st century hip hop.
____________

Pre-808 when he sold out. Also it isnt exactly revolutionary, hundreds of acts before him have stole a sample to rap over.

Diamonds Forever is the example???????

Sorry it takes serious talent to rap, write, write the hook, and 100% produce a best rap album .

I like Diamonds From Sierra Leone but to put it forward as an example of a groundbreaking, genre redifining record is a joke.

Sorry, i didn't exactly call it redifining, but it's that sort of out landish production that was nowhere to be seen in your 80's90's

It takes some talent to take a song before, speed it up and rap over yes. Kanye used to do it well as well. I fail to see how he hasnt sold out since? The last album of his I liked was Graduation.

'Just keep my love locked down' Brilliant

Out-landish? Not seen in the 90s?

Better flow than kanye DJ

Benny

posted on 1/3/13

I meant It Ain't Hard To Tell, btw. And I checked, and LP produced both

posted on 1/3/13

Thing is with Benny, he says he grew up on the modern stuff so it is only natural he thinks it is all fresh and new.

The problem with Bennys arguments is when he says things like "all rap talked about was hoe-s, guns and the such" and the fact he didn't know Cee-Lo was a rapper.
When you are in that situation it makes no sense to argue hard hearted with older gods about hip-hop of the 90s.

One day he will appreciate the genius of 90s hip hop.

Dont know much about Rap producers except for the fact that 'Ali Shaheed Muhammad' did most of ATCQs

Agreed DJ, I knew fack all about hippity hop pre-this thread but made a big effor to learn some of th great tracks/rappers.

posted on 1/3/13

I don't mind KanYe, but a lot of it is just electro pop, with as you say, auto-tune vocals. Watch The Throne is a very good album imo, but even that gives nods to the likes of Pete Rock, Q-Tip and RZA who KanYe styled alot of his production skills on.

Obviously sounds are going to evolve, and the likes of KanYe will further techniques. But the way Benny made it sound, it was as if KanYe invented modern production.

Does anyone like Clipse?

Never heard him Saint, Im surprised you didnt pipe up more earlier btw.

I dont like Kanye much DJ, used to love him but he has gone so downhill. His current song Mercy is embarrassing

Its a duo/group Edin. You probably heard of Pusha T, he was/is part of that duo with his brother.

They're very good.
