meh
the beginning of the play comes from rooney carrick or scholes, but that counts for nothing in stats.
comparing these two players is silly
I can admit that Utd are better than us, it just seems that no Utd fan can admit when a player is not as good as they may think.

when your club wins fook all

go compare, go compare

Very defeatist attitude of you considering you are 8 points ahead of City. You do realise the OP is a Manc don't you? Some fans you lot are.

Additionally, Rooney gets a lot of help from the referees with those penalties which further inflates his tally.
-----------------
How exactly does the ref help him score the penalty? Little one-two to outfox the keeper?
Anyway, do a proper comparison.
Scholes > Arteta
COOL_GUNNINGS we should just accept that De Gea is the best keeper, Evans is the best CB, Rafael the best RB, Carrick is the best CM, Rooney is the best striker and depending on which Manc you are arguing with, Nani/Valencia is the best winger in England. Just accept it.

Van persie can tell his kids he was in world cup final (even though he lost)
where as england will never get that far
Thunderkiss, you still haven't stated that RVP is better than Rooney, which he is

So his legacy will be that he was in the final of the worst world cup in living memory and got a runners up medal?
Rooney has won the world club cup
Anyway, do a proper comparison.
Scholes > Arteta

United's next world superstar of the century Cleverly cant even play ahead of a retire OAP.

Well he's given a fair few youngsters a crack this season and he's probably going to win the league, can't fault him on that.
so basically after reading through this the arguement for van persie being a better player is that he looks better, has a more exotic name and "everone knows van persie is better/ all the neutrals would have him blah blah blah"...
whereas the arguement for rooney is that he scores the same amount of goals (more actually if you look before this season too), makes twice as many passes per game and gives the ball away less...
You do realise the OP is a Manc don't you?
-------------------------------
I realise he made a classic WUM article and caught about 50 Arsenal fish who love to "go compare"
There isn't a comparison to be fair. Like I previously stated, comparing Rooney to RVP is like comparing Ronaldo to Messi

Quite honestly I wouldn't swap them. I'd rather see Rooney play well the whole season than Van Persie play really well for half of it.

Yet he still plays Giggs and Scholes
What will happen when they finally retire for good?
Most people know Van Persie is not only the best striker in the PL but the best player. This is why we will be voted PFA Player of the Year.
I'd rather have Rooney than RVP as well, this has been RVP's proper season when he hasn't got injured and he's more older than Rooney too. What if RVP suffers injuries again next season? Can't afford to lose a quality player like that all the time.

Given the time span it's voted in it'll go to David Silva, even if he has done less after Christmas than Santa
Arab, you say you'd rather have Rooney cos RVP could get injured, this doesn't mean Rooney is better it just means RVP is more injury prone. Amount of injuries has nothing to do with skill and ability.
Both great players. RVP is a CF whereas Rooney is more deep lying forward the one season Rooney played as an actual CF two years ago he scored 34 goals despite his ankle injury v Bayern.
One thing is beyond dispute though....Rooney has inflicted far more damage on Arsenal over the years than RVP has managed to inflict on United.
