I'm glad we've had this short winter break. It's crazy to expect players to keep going nonstop over a 9 month season with as many games as there are in all comps. This should have been introduced years ago.

Hopefully we'll see some of our very jaded looking players like Tammy and Mount bounce back on their returns and be sharp for the remianinder of the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree with you on this superb I must be honest. Obviously not playing at that level, but with none of the physio or healthcare these pros have to hand, I use to play footy 3/4 times a week and do kickboxing too. And I was very intense as a player and a bit of a freak energy wide...which makes me feel even worse nowadays when i struggle to do a 5k
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair enough but the thing is these players are just human beings and what they have to put into a season energy wise is immense when you factor even trivial stuff like all the travelling these guys have to do. Especially to far flung corners of Europe and back within a day or two.

Looking at Mount and Tammy in recent weeks they both looked wrecked to me. Let's see how they do on their returns, will be interesting to see if the rest has done them good or not.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Makes me wonder what they do in training and how intense it is? Playing every few days shouldn't be an issue but if frank is drilling them every day it's not ideal. Just because he was a supreme athlete even at his level does not mean the others can be.

Yeah everyone I think knew to give this season time, what's been dissapointing to me is now seeing how good our younger players can be, we have let ourselves down in certain games.
Some of the losses and dropped points have been shambolic. I was expecting us to be flaky and to struggle against the top teams, but we've actually been pretty good against the better teams and been very poor against the lower teams.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah we've been shambolic in some games but much better in games we might not have expected to be as good in. Just shows the inexperience of the manager and the team but the important thing is that they're getting vital experience in all these games this season.

try the Thorgan question...I said that..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Explain the point of the Thorgan question, I saw no point in it whatsoever, other than its utter irrelevance
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really...spotting potential...?

maybe his stats never stacked up...maybe we were never in for him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We signed him and we let him go, please explain the significance of that in relation to Chelsea and KDB
----------------------------------------------------------------------
didn't know we had - someone decided he wasn't good enough...unsure who
Jose decided KDB wasn't good enough, & told him so - obviously basing it on two appearances & any stats he had

KDB'S words...

"He said: "José called me into his office in December, and it was probably the second big life-changing moment for me. He had some papers in front of him, and he said, 'One assist. Zero goals. Ten recoveries.'

"Then he started reading the stats of the other attacking forwards — Willian, Oscar, Mata, Schürrle. And it’s like — five goals, 10 assists, whatever.
"It was so strange. We had a bit of a conversation about me going back out on loan. I was completely honest. I said, 'I feel like the club doesn’t really want me here. I want to play football. I’d rather you sell me.'

"I think José was a bit disappointed, but to be fair to him, I think he also understood that I absolutely needed to play. So the club ended up selling me,

So basically Jose binned him on stats on two games...

not my rules

I can imagine training sessions under Frank are gruelling. Must be challenging to play for a former player who was so far ahead of most other players, especially in terms of what he put into training.

Can remember back in about 2005 Sam Allardyce compiled some game stats on Lampard and he was basically showing that Lampard was an alien in terms of what he put into matches.

He probably tippexed out the "minutes played" column

pretty much....like I say not my rules...he's a law unto himself isn't he...(Jose)

Doesn't make stats any less important though within the game...just need a significantly bigger sample size to work with

posted on 11/2/20

no i agree, and i use stats to back up my opinions alot on here, but yeah, sample size is key. Long and short of it is he didn't have a sniff at chelsea

and like it or not biggish..stats of all types are a huge part of all top class sport now, especially in football, and from all levels.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, if you are such a stats guru, then I am interested to know your methodology for significance and interpretation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Did I say I was that....?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's pretty frightening if people are prepared to buy into an opinion based on data that they neither understand how to interpret nor validate for significance
----------------------------------------------------------------------
i'm sure it must be...however I never said I did...I said stats are an important part of the game, whether you like it/agree or not
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think they are because I have never seen stats more misused in any other industry sector than in the football media. they have dumbed stats down for the dumb and the dumb lap them up liked lambs to the slaughter, with an utter inability /desire or both to understand or challenge the data.

In the old days Sky Sports news basically just had models reading the news. On the one hand I am glad they are now mildly interested in journalism on the other hand the chauvinist part of my brain does realise there is less eye candy than there was 10 years ago.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
just pure disappointment my end
