Crossing accuracy would almost by definition lead to an assist i'd think

I'd hope anyway... if I was a winger
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not even close if you take into account our strikers of recent times.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
can you clarify
----------------------------------------------------------------------
My point was that we haven't had any wingers that can make an accurate cross in ages
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even still, in the moments when it's laid up perfectly our strikers are hardly in the box let alone getting on the end of a cross or even putting it away when they get a head on it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If only we'd bought Vardy eh....

any examples biggish of what you're talking about? I find stats have a place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just watch how sky sports news use stats every day to support their features on players, its a joke
----------------------------------------------------------------------
ah tbh i dont really watch it.
I did see once they were using FM stats though"he has 19 aggression"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
exhibit 1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No sorry i'm not having that...& you didn't see this, & certainly not recently - you've just plagiarised it today

I did say this was probably a tongue in cheek throw away line...(as i'm sure it was)

So you'll forgive me if I'm not of a mind to believe that the biggest and best broadcaster of premium football in this country is taken to using joke stats to make serious points about the quality of players

so i'm happy to default if you can show me some good examples though...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I tell you what Sherrif, since you are making such a big deal about this, ..give me a couple of examples of some football stats that Sjky Sports use that you believe facilitate a credible evidence based conclusion

The Daily Mail does some excellent reporting, a lot of crap too - I will readily admit this, but I get bored of it being the punch bag for shoddy journalism. They have won a fair number of awards for their work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But as you said. a lot of crap too, whether intentional or not, you have given a 50/50 impression on Daily Mail content

Honestly I think, if you include MailOnline, it's about 80 percent rubbish. But my point is, I could say the same about many so-called reputable outputs.

I have interned or worked on fixed term contracts at most national newspapers, I have seen how the sausage is made and its not pleasant for the most part. Do you really want me telling you the news

I must give creit to Daily Mail that despite its right hand column (online) that each day objectifies women, it never shirks from claiming the moral high ground on issue of sexism...

Sky Sports tends to be obsessed with goals and assists as stats when I watch their programmes. Which certainly does not tell you the whole story of a forwards usefulness - key passes, succesful take one, fouls received and crossing accuracy are much more important for a winger than assists for example.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Not that I don’t really disagree but usually the wingers with the most assists will be correlate as top in those stats and the most ‘creative’ by eye test

posted on 11/2/20

Yeah not sure why they are poo pooing your thoughts sheriff stats certainly have their place. Use that an an eye test in most cases
