I can only assume neither of you bothered to watch us last season......as quite frankly bar Kova and Silva no one performed last season, so I am not sure how you boys have a bad Norwich loan which was sabotaged by the Norwich manager over the sheet show that was Chelsea after what the 2nd week of October. We had Saul in our team FFS, and you think Gilmour can't do a job

I’m with Simon on this one.

Saul wasn’t good enough for Chelsea - and he’s not here this year. Gilmour (based purely on his performances last year) wasn’t good enough for Chelsea, and so he shouldn’t be here either.
A loan will be good for him. He’ll get a lot more time on the pitch, and if all goes well this time next year he’ll get his chance to play for Chelsea. Really don’t understand why some fans take this so personally. He’s not your son is he, Simon?

Gilmour (based on his performances WITH us) is good enough for Chelsea and should be here. You don’t need to send talent away to prove themselves after they can already provide help in areas we need it. Plus, learning from the players we have here and growing with the team is a thing to be encouraged. Seems to be the go to for everyone when we sign a CB.

I'd prefer Cho and Gilmour go out on loan for regular game time though.

CHO I agree should go out on loan. He was HERE and wasn’t able to prove himself. I don’t see why Gilmour should have to go out again. Give him a chance to prove himself. He won’t be worse than Barkley, Saul or RLC.

Plus I don’t think Jorginho will keep up the form he showed today.

This 100%

Said it before we desperately need a playmaker in the mix as well as some energy - we used to have RLC for the energy but he hasn't really got anywhere near pre injury form. Gilmour showed both for us, early Norwich and Scotland he is good enough for a squad place at the very least and if actually nurtured looks like a future star..........however I have a bad feeling that TT may not be that person and we may have another KDB on our hands, he has his favourites and it's looking like Alonso is gonna be a starter for us again which to anyone with eyes seems inconceivable

Simon, I sincerely hope you’re right - that Gilmour turns out to be another KDB. So far he looks more like another McEachran though.
And we all agree - we need a better left wingback than Alonso. However, it’s also clear that Chilwell is not fully up to speed yet, so it may take a little time. Right now Tuchel is correct in selecting Alonso to start. Although I also wish he had given Maatsen a try, who is already starring on loan to Burnley.

Two things:

Gilmour chose to go on loan - he pushed for it. He wasn't "sent away."

Secondly, he is at a stage in his career he needs to play every week.

And in response to Simon's (rather rude) comment, Gilmour played poorly for Norwich most the time, that's on him despite the manager, the club or any other variable.

He has had a mixture of good and bad performances over a really small sample size with us. For Norwich he was awful.

So I think we need much more evidence on Gilmour to know if he is good enough. I think he should be in our squad this season and that we should rotate him with Jorghi. We can never play them together though as both have zero pace.

Then let’s assess him upto January and if he has not been good enough loan him out in January.

Ps He is never going to be a KDB. But I hope he can become a Modric or Xavi

Just a bit more on Gilmour. My suspicion is he is that at the moment the type of player that needs good players around him. I think he is a rhythm player. That is why I would like him to feature with us the first half of the season. I am not yet certain he is good enough, but he has shown enough to be given the opportunity to rotate with Jorghi.

Chelsea XI to face Udinese XI: Kepa; Chalobah, Ampadu, Sarr; Loftus-Cheek, Kovacic, Gallagher, Chilwell; Ziyech, Broja, Pulisic

Subs: Bettinelli, Emerson, Gilmour, Kenedy, Hudson-Odoi, Vale.

Problem is we have Kante, Kovacic, Jorginho, Loftus Cheek and seemingly Gallagher for the double pivot.

And considering Gilmour was sent home from the US, he is likely 6th choice.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is prepared to take a pay cut to leave #Chelsea amid Napoli's loan interest as he looks to play regularly and in the #CL.

I said a few years ago, and nothing's changed, if I was Chelsea manager Jorginho for Gilmour and vice versa would've been like my Kovacic for Barkley under Sarri

Jorginho if we need to slow the pace, Gilmour if we need to progress the ball a bit quicker.

I just see Gilmour only competing with Jorghi. I think he is a niche midfield player only. That is why I think they can rotate with each other. Gilmour does not have any pace, so I don’t see him as a like for like competition for the likes of Kova Gallagher wtc

Gallagher still doesn't look comfortable in the pivot. His best moments have been further forward when he's closed players down

In our current set up, he looks best placed for Mount's role - which obviously, Mount has taken.

I think we're missing a trick not playing a system that accommodates both of them at their best.

Really hoped pulisic would try and bulk up this summer. Still looks so lightweight
