Gallagher still doesn't look comfortable in the pivot. His best moments have been further forward when he's closed players down
----------------------------------------------------------------------

In our current set up, he looks best placed for Mount's role - which obviously, Mount has taken.

I think we're missing a trick not playing a system that accommodates both of them at their best.

Need a proper DM for that. Jorginho isn't mobile enough to have such attacking CMs either side of him

Great finish from RLC.

Looks very comfortable at RWB

Yeah I don’t have high hopes for Gallagher this season unless there’s a significant tactical shift

Broja off for CHO. Should've been Ziyech. Nonsense "false 9" formation now

That goal all stemmed from Gallagher winning the ball back. Absolutely brilliant at that - been very clear today. But I have doubts about his ability to control tempo in the middle of the park. Can't see him playing in the pivot against semi-decent opposition

Yay, finally got ourselves a clean sheet to end pre season

I suppose the silver lining is that Mount can't play every minute of every game in every comp so Gallagher at bare minimum provides an alternative to use in rotation with Mount.

But yeah I'd much rather find a system that plays both and I don't think it would be too hard to do either. Think we'd really beat teams up in midfield (not literally) with those two on the pitch together.

I wonder if we could use Ampadu as the holding midfielder and then those 2 ahead of him

Don't see why not, if he's good enough.

AC Milan will make a 'concrete attempt in the second half of August' to sign #Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech. They would only be able to sign him on a loan deal with an option to buy, with Ziyech willing to take a pay cut.

That would mean leaving out Kante & Kovacic, can't see it happening unless they're injured

433 switch might have to wait until we buy someone like Rice next summer.

With our current set of midfielders I can't see us moving from this 3atb

Inter Milan have rejected Chelsea's initial bid for Cesar Casadei, believed to be worth around €10 million. Inter want a fee in the region of €20 million plus a buy back clause, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Still plenty of time to get a DM in this window. And it's great having Kovacic and Kante in the squad but I don't think we should be married to the idea that both definitely start. Not with Mount and Gallagher also to choose from now in midfield.

Also Kante hasn't been at the same high level he was for a while now due to form and injuries. I no longer see him as an absolutely certainty to start. Maybe he proves me wrong and turns the clock back a bit this season.

Chelsea have been told that it will cost almost €70 million to sign Milan Skirinar from Inter Milan, the player is thought to be more interested in a move to PSG should they make an acceptable offer.

RB Leipzig are 'pushing' to sign Timo Werner from #Chelsea. Talks ongoing over loan. Juventus are interested, but currently too expensive.

Why don’t they say re sign?

They make it sound like he never use to play for Leipzig

He'll go back to Leipzig this summer. They're just trying to get him back as cheap as possible. Probably testing our new owners.

So Kante yesterday and Ruben today our best performers. Maybe it was a good thing they didn’t go on tour.

Also heard Broja missed some big chances.

Napoli and #Chelsea are 'closer' to reaching an agreement for the loan of Kepa Arrizabalaga. The clubs have reached an agreement for the salary - Chelsea are expected to pay 3/4 of Kepa's wages. Optimism is growing.
