Thing is IF we're going for De Jong then almost certainly we won't go for Rice next year.

Can’t imagine that’s true. I would guess we are very likely to go for Rice next year even if we have de Jong.

Nah I think long term we could have both in the same midfield
Brighton did not make it easy for #Chelsea to sign Marc Cucurella, making it clear that a deal is dependent on them bolstering their defence.
[via @JacobSteinberg]
#Chelsea have been reluctant to sell Levi Colwill and initially told Brighton they were only willing to loan the defender. This did not appeal to Brighton and there are ongoing negotiations now over a permanent deal.
[via @JacobSteinberg]
Would be great business with a buyback, apparently quoted at 20 mill. That means cucurella only costs 30.
And then we can buy him back for 20 if he develops into a top player
It appears that both clubs would like to announce the two deals - Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill - at the same time and that the hold-up are the details of the talks on Colwill.

I honestly didn't think that we would be able to go for him with the amount of midfielders we have on the books but you are probably right.
Via Brighton official account
CLUB STATEMENT: MARC CUCURELLA.
Contrary to inaccurate reports from numerous media outlets this evening, no agreement has been reached with any club to sell Marc Cucurella.
Figures close to the Marc Cucurella deal are adamant that the #Chelsea transfer will now go through, with a medical booked, although Brighton sources were still insisting on Wednesday night that no final agreement had been reached.

Just seen the news that DCL is definitely out on Saturday and with Richarlason leaving and there other recognised striker banned hopefully we can sell them Batshuayi before we play them

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our outlay now is roughly £30m, £50m for Cucurella minus £20m for Colwill.
But if we decide to buy Colwill back it'll be another £40m.
So total outlay of around £70m, dependant on what the exact fees end up being.
DOF in place and I reckon we blood Colwill as a backup this season in our squad rather than essentially paying to loan him to Brighton for a year or two.
Even that. Atm 30 mill for one good player. Potentially 70 for two good players

We definitely need better long term plans laid for the young players we buy/come through the academy. Cos again we seemed to have laid out what 30 million on a couple of young players who based on previous experience will never play for us apart from the pre season friendlies, and will either constantly be loaned out, or just hangs round the club doing nothing. Seems to be a huge breakdown between the youth set-up and senior squad. Like I am sure we have a couple of kids available who could have done Sauls or Sarrs job yet we are loaning or buying these players and loaning out the kids. Like we seriously went into last season with just Rom as a recognised striker......at least have a kid registered in there as back up or something. Honestly, I would be quite happy to see some sort of restriction on loanees come into place.

8 players (above the age of 21) maximum on loan.

Yeah it means essentially paying £70m for Cucurella, considering Colwill is already a Chelsea player. That’s not great.
I also think there are serious doubts about his ability to play LCB for a top club. I get that the club want him to be like Azpi but I don’t think he’s elite defensively as a CB.
Gonna be an exodus from our academy. No wonder we're buying up young talent.
The fact we couldn't find space in our squad this season for Colwill is fecking scandalous.
Reserving judgement on Tuchel for now but I'm starting to get the feeling he was all talk when it came to utilising our academy.
We've lost 2 brilliant CBs from our academy and are about to repeat the mistake and let a 3rd leave. Buybacks mean feck all if the player doesn't actually want to come back.
I'm hopeful that Broja and Gallagher will get a genuine opportunity this season but I've massively lowered my expectations.
