If we did this to sign Fofana it would make more sense although still be annoying
----------------------------------------------------------------------
True - I'd definitely still be annoyed but it'd make some kind of footballing sense. Whereas this deal just seems braindead.
Is 3atb going to be our formation long-term? If not, have we just paid £50m for a backup to our existing £50m LB/LWB.

Some of you are being a bit ridiculous about Boehly coming in and showing he means business. He’s getting us players likely pointed out by Tuchel to strengthen us. Then also suggesting that there’s no long term planning etc. Just more BS. They basically just stepped into the office and are doing business with a big hurricane likely going on behind the scenes.
This window is all about getting players in and out. Not about being a hard ass when negotiating. We need to get players in or we will stagnate. Not happy when we aren’t signing players and apparently not happy when we do. You guys trip me out sometimes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m with you RTM. Boehly seems to be working really hard to bring in players that Tuchel wants. And doing it all really quickly after the hole that Abramovich sanctions left us in. How many other owners have shown that kind of commitment to their club? Eventually someone else will presumably take over this head of football role, but in the meantime he deserves huge props for doing it all himself.
We’ve already signed Koulibaly and Sterling. Looks like he’s going to get us another couple of great players before he’s done. It could be a great window.
If we do indeed sell Colwill, it sounds like there will be a buyback in place, which means at worst it will cost us some money to get a well developed player, rather than losing talent completely. The way you guys are talking you’d think it was your money Boehly’s spending

Would be great business with a buyback, apparently quoted at 20 mill. That means cucurella only costs 30.
And then we can buy him back for 20 if he develops into a top player
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Our outlay now is roughly £30m, £50m for Cucurella minus £20m for Colwill.
But if we decide to buy Colwill back it'll be another £40m.
So total outlay of around £70m, dependant on what the exact fees end up being.
DOF in place and I reckon we blood Colwill as a backup this season in our squad rather than essentially paying to loan him to Brighton for a year or two.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah it means essentially paying £70m for Cucurella, considering Colwill is already a Chelsea player. That’s not great.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmmm very negative way of looking at it. We either get one great player for 30 or two for 70 imo.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mate we already own one of those two players lol
#Chelsea are considering Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Discussions have started with the forward, but no bid has been made to Barcelona.
[via @FabrizioRomano]
Leicester City have rejected an offer of around €75M from #Chelsea for Wesley Fofana.
[via @lequipe]
I am not going to complain about Cucurella.
Top player and we do need top level WB competition. Azpi and Alonso as back ups last season following Chilwells injury was one of the reasons our title run collapsed.
The frustration is we are losing a talented young player.
But I will wait until the window shuts before making a real judgement here
If we were keeping Colwill I’d be much more comfortable with the Cucurella signing
Is FFP still a thing btw
Seems like Todd is ready to spend like there’s no tomorrow

I was open to Colwill going on loan. Especially because Colwill is likely pushing for games and is unlikely to be happy as 5th choice defender.
The problem is getting mugged off by a PL minnow. Boehly does seem a little too nicey nicey.

£50m offer should be enough.
As it stands:
GK: Mendy, ?
RB: James, ?
CB: Koulibaly, Silva, Chalobah, ?
LB: Chilwell, Cucurella
CM: Kante, Kovacic, Jorginho, RLC
AM/W: Mount, Sterling, Pulisic, Ziyech, Gallagher, CHO
ST: Havertz, Werner, Broja
Spent £150m and our defence is still pretty glaringly lacking. Only one truly unquestionable CB option there IMO

My man the whole squad is glaring to be honest
0 creativity in midfield and I feel you are stretching the striker situation. The sooner people accept that Kai and Werner arent strikers the better. Both are glorified wingers at best.
So basically we have an overloaded wingers situation, an untested CF who I hope at least gets a chance, and an ageing midfield with 0 creativity and a few band-aids in defence, oh and forwards who have a fear of scoring.
Yes the defence is bad and desperately needs an overhaul, but it wont be conceding that costs us next season, but the inability to score. We made mistakes but we should have scored goals to cover these lapses in concentration.
Despite just about everyone saying we dont have a plan, I think we do, something in the lines if having a list of maybe 1-5 players for each position we need and we sign them accordingly based on attainability,
