With two assists in two outings, it means that Sancho - with less than 90 minutes on the pitch for Chelsea - has already matched the total number of assists achieved last season by Mykhaylo Mudryk

posted on 22/9/24

The assists were nothing special tbh. But he’s 10x better then Mudryk at keeping the ball and dribbling.

Love the aura of control Sancho has with the ball, it's the total opposite of Mudryk who has that impact sub/desperate to do something now vibe.

Hudson-Odoi had it as well. It's always cool/feels like a novelty having English wingers who project this confidence with the ball at their feet, whether they actually do something productive with it or not

Yeah that's quite damning, no getting away from it.

Find this match depressing, Chelsea's level is light years below these two teams right now.

We can say, 'Well obviously, cos new players, new squad etc' but the fact we haven't managed to get it together is depressing.

Well most teams in the league are well below these two.

Both City and Arsenal have given their managers time to build a squad and way of playing.

If we want to catch them then we need to do the same and back a manager. The constant change just doesn't help us get any closer.

Maybe we would be if we didn't sack at least one manager per season. Both these sides have had the same manager for several years.

This is 100% guaranteed to remain the case until one year we can stop saying "new players, new squad"

What I mean is we were well ahead of Arsenal under Tuchel despite our tendency to lose to them in individual matches.

Cast your mind back three years ago: we had just won CL, beaten City multiple times, and then smashed Arsenal at Emirates, and held Liverpool at Anfield with 10 men in a super high quality intense match despite the ref fecking us over.

Now, most those players again, we've burned through four managers and about 70 players and are at the level of a top six side at best.

It's depressing.

Less interested in Arsenal or using Arteta as an example - it's more about City for me. Arsenal's best team in 20 years has won as many trophies as our worst.

Same argument applies to Pep's City though. They didn't give him a whole new squad, they honed in on one specific area (full back's) and allowed the rest of the team to breathe. They didn't strip apart the team like we have the last two years.

And bare in mind that squad he inherited weren't living up to their expectations & they had the money. They allowed him to coach instead.

It's been chaos at this club since TT left though. Complete overhaul from top to bottom, ownership change, senior figures at the top gone, squad overhaul, manager change every season.

Will take time to rebuild and get back to them levels we were used to.

My point is not whether we should expect to be as good as Arsenal or City, it's bemoaning the fact those circumstances exist.

The club the owners inherited was a top four team with a world class manager — the changes you're describing are mostly of their making.

So, while i should not expect a title challenge from this team due to circumstances, I am annoyed they have created the circumstances by sacking managers and scrapping a top four squad to gamble on a load of young players and a powerpoint presentation manager that may or may not work.
