Anyone have this year's FM? I just picked it up & looking over us for the first time.
It's done Palmer so dirty. He came out of nowhere so I can understand his attributes being a bit off but 13/20 composure is a p!ss take

They must have focused in on Boro away

Tbf to Poch he got us to a final and a semi final in both domestic cups, eventually losing to City and Pool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Shush.....those kinda facts don't suit the narrative
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a narrative? I'm confused. Poch did alright, got us 6th after what was a poor first half of the season and got us to a league cup final as mentioned. And he may well have improved on that 6th place this season although we'll never know now as the club decided to part ways with him.
There's no real narrative though that I can see apart from us fans having to accept that fact and move on. The new manager has made a good start so let's all be positive and get behind him as we have little other choice as fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is always a narrative on here, be it players or managers. TheTuchel was a poor manager is one of the classics and then it transgressed to Poch. Whatever happened to objectivity?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm dunno. Who's saying that Tuchel was poor ? Guy won us the CL so obviously he was anything but that.
I know some on here didn't like Poch but I don't see how anyone can say he's a poor manager. Think that would be a very difficult argument to make given our top four form since Christmas with an injury ravaged squad. That's obviously very far from poor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I include myself on narratives by the way....Mudryk for example. Unfortunately he has not yet been able to disprove it.

Fair enough. Not pinpointing one person but it would be good if everyone on here dialled it back a bit tbh. This thread is much less fun than it used to be. Used to be about banter now it's more about bickering.
We all want the same thing essentially and the reality is that none of what anyone says on here actually changes anything at all lol. Things are going to happen and unfold as they would anyway. Nobody at Chelsea FC keeps an eye on The Haven 😂
I think a lot of scepticism towards the club is fair — but I do think sometimes it slides into reactive pessimism. It's possibly only to be expected after the last couple years.
But it is ok to be happy with recent wins and enjoying Chelsea again, while also being unconvinced by Boehly and Eghbali.
Scepticism towards the ownership is fine I think and we're all on the same page there. I don't think that should overly define our mood though as fans.
Especially not when things on the pitch have been improving. Let's be honest 2024 has actually been alright so far in terms of the football played and results. Still not great maybe but definitely better than most of the last year or two prior.
And the reality is that the only disaster season we've suffered is the 22/23 season. Everything before and after hasn't really been that bad at all. The way some of us act on here you'd think we'd been finishing bottom half of the table for the last five years straight or something lol.
It was more the cumulation of events
- Sanctioned by the government
- Tuchel sacked
- Potter's awful form
- No one trying under Lampard
- Pochettino's very slow start as manager
In the midst of that we sold a lot of established players who'd won us trophies along with plenty of well-liked academy prospects in exchange for a baffling transfer policy that wasn't explained.
It's ok lots of fans were confused and angry by all that.
Just think that it's ok to still be guarded but happier that results are noticeably improving.

And being unconvinced about our squad and manager given its only 5 games in and barring Man City the opposition has been awful to average.
This comes back to objectivity and considering things like sample size and context. When I see claims already that we're playing better than last season it leaves me perplexed given the sample size and level of performances so far

Yeah I'm not saying that anyone should refrain from commentary and criticism. That would obviously be impossible on this thread lol.
It's a debating thread after all. Would just be nice to see this place being less miserable and less about the bickering it's become as opposed to it's heyday when it was primarily about banter and fun.
Back when we had about three times the number we have now. No big coincidence that the numbers have dwindled massively as the thread has changed. There's only about five of us posting very regularly on here now lol
Funnily enough when I look at the Arsenal Thread it reminds me of what the Haven used to be.

Yeah I think it is....i'm (very quietly) more confident than the last two seasons...
Pity we didn't buy another striker though (Goykores would have been great) - but if Chris & Jacko can maintain you never know
I don't think there's anything wrong with skeptisim or criticism of the ownership. Although that's an absolute given surely 🤔.
I’m more confident this year in our team and management than I have been for a couple of years. So that’s positive.
But I’m also less confident that we can manage finances behind the scenes, and I’m concerned that we could be in for a fine and a points deduction this season.

-----------------------------------------------------
We need Champions League this year. No more loopholes to exploit, no more worthwhile H/G's to balance the books.
If we decided now to reign in our compulsion to rip up the squad every season. If we begin to get regular Champions League income we're well set for operating under a fantastic transfer strategy & one we should've done in the Roman era - trust the academy to bulk up filler positions in the squad, and invest money is one or two ready made, high quality players in the areas the academy can't prop up.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
But that is due what has happened since the takeover.
The club has changed massively as has the squad. I don't think its right to refrain from commentary and criticism when it is valid. This site is and more than anything an opinion forum. From such forums ideas can emerge, bad ones and good ones.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I'm not saying that anyone should refrain from commentary and criticism.
