“Winning the Champions League with Arsenal would mean a lot more [than Chelsea]”. - Havertz

What the actual....caant

He plays for Arsenal now, obviously he'd say that. And considering the way he was scapegoated by some of the pond life in our fan base I wouldn't be surprised he is a little bitter.

It was the right move to sell him, no issues with it. But would warn against being precious and triggered when a player bites back - they are allowed to.

Not a Havertz thing either really, I loved it when Ashley Cole gave Arsenal fans both barrels or when Lampard scored against West Ham and celebrated. Football's tribal.

Wonder how Havertz will feel about those comments when his career is over if he never wins the CL with Arsenal. Especially if he's only at Arsenal for three or four years and wins nothing of major significance in that time.

Who cares is my honest take. He's gone, no idea why everyone brings him up.

He scored the CL final goal for us. Cheers for that. Also he was mixed bag at best and we were grateful to get our money back for him. That's about it.

True. I found it very weird that we'd get a Havertz goal alert on here every time he scored a goal for Arsenal last season. Hopefully people have grown out of that this season lol

Hilarious arsenal will finally finish above city this year but they’ll finish behind us

Then they’ll never challenge again will be like spurs’ few years run at the top

I am curious how people on here feel about the 2021 CL win.

On the one hand, it's probably the peak of Chelsea's performance in a decade — outplayed City, Real and Atletico — and at the time, I liked a lot of the players.

On the other, the whole squad has moved on — and in some cases to rival teams — and the entire club apart from the fans has moved on. It's only three years ago but it feels more like 20 to me.

I was the perfect age for 2012, it was our first win and it was so dramatic that it will always be a core memory. Even at the time our other CL win never had anything like the same impact. Plus as you say, with the mass change around the club it almost feels like it never happened.

I honestly have moments where I forget it happened

The 2012 one had so much build up, so many little subplots spanning over 8 years. 2021 came so out of nowhere that it just doesn't resonate the same. And as you say, the fact everything relenting to it is now gone within the space of three years makes it feel kind of irrelevant - like a completely different club did it.

When I think about peak Chelsea in that general era, my first thought is 16-17 before thinking about that. Maybe cos that involved Hazard? Dunno.

We pretty much were a different club in 2021. Think only the dinner ladies and Reece James are still here

I still feel great about the 2021 CL win though. What always makes me chuckle is that is was probably two of our lesser sides in the entire Roman era that actually won the CL.

Any of Jose's sides 2004-2006, the Avram side of 2008 that got to the Final, Hiddink's side of 2009, Carlo's side of 2010, Jose's side of 2015, Conte's side of 2017 would all have annihilated the two sides that actually won the CL lol

He's an interesting player & there's an undertone of what if about him? People can say he was cr@p but that's not how football fans tend to think, he's still young & has all the natural tools to be a great player, so of course they'll be a bit of trepidation.

You think United fans won't tell themselves this season "Sancho was a waste, don't care how great he is at Chelsea" while secretly willing him too fail so hard?

I may be overrating Tuchel, but I think he's our best in-game manager since Mourinho, and that means the 2021 team would have been highly competitive in those matches.

Also, Kante was world class, Mount and James were elite back then, and our defence was brilliant. So I am also a bit wary of people pretending it was like Biscan and Smicer era Liverpool in 2005.

Interesting though - I agree nothing beats the emotion of 2012. But do think we should be proud of 2021, especially as it wasn't luck, we just outplayed everyone.

Agree via Tuchel.

Put together Jose's ability to inspire people (even now), Conte's forensic tactical work on the training ground, and Tuchel's in-game management into one person. You've got the perfect Roman's Chelsea manager, and that mo fo is winning everything with any of the teams that era produced

I don't think you're overrating Tuchel, he was brilliant for us in that CL season. And it's a shame that Roman couldn't keep hold of the club longer as we'll never know what we could have done in the following seasons with Tuchel at the helm.

I don't think that Chelsea team was special though compared to all those previous teams. Let's not forget that this was a team with horrendous in front of goal Werner in the side. And the likes of Mount and James were still very young at the time even if they performed very well. Kante and Silva were probably the only truly elite players in that side. And Silva was already late thirties by then.

It was still a good side though managed by an elite manager. I just don't think it was a patch on some of those sides of yesteryear that featured the likes of JT, Drogba, Lamps, Kante, Hazard, Malouda, Cole, Anelka, Fabregas, Cech, Robben, Costa etc

I feel bad for Hazard not winning a CL with us as he was here for so much of the time between our two CL wins. At least he won a couple of titles.

I'm pretty sure Hazard doesn't care what he did & didn't win, just happy he got to provide for his family doing something he was gifted at.

Why he was so awesome

That is interesting. Presumably Sancho was already on that salary at Man Utd, but I notice that 3 of the other top 5 earners aren’t even first team players - James, Chilwell and Nkunku.

I like the CL wins as they both represent such a different way of doing things to me. 2012, was proper backs to the wall, drama, and I always think, a whole lot of luck, which contributed to how special it felt. 2021 meanwhile, each match we played we were just..in control, the better team tactically. It’s nice to experience both. It was also nice 2021 has so many academy grads involved.

As has been alluded too slightly before it’s a shame the team fell off and changed so much after the 2021 win. Similar thing happened in 2012 but more acceptable / predicted - we had an old squad, a slight unknown manager and like I said, for me I’m quite accepting of fact we had a lot of luck. In 2021 however we had a young squad, a known quantity of manager and just seemed to have a good foundation to build on.

2012 just had different vibes. First time winning it, pretty much against the odds in most of the games.

All of the frustration from previous years of getting so close but not being to get over the line - ghost goal, Moscow penalty shootout.
