At first I thought, damn straight these people are finally doing something for the money WE THE TAXPAYER have to pay them.
Both the conditions they were forced to work in were pretty bad

How much did the whole jubilee cost, and they couldnt even pay these people?
My god,
Im all for getting the scroungers off the dole, but this is not the way to do it.
Heads should roll for this!
What a terrible, terrible story!
The work employment program is a joke anyway
Thats unbeleivable??
Im all against scroungers, but these people are obvious not that sort of people!
They deserve rewards for what the've enjured!
It might toughen some of them up
Yeah could go one or the other mate!
Don't see the big deal myself.
It says they had to camp the night before, when in fact they arrived at 3am, and were getting ready for work at 5.30 am.
And they obviously knew they were having to camp if they were taking tents with them.
So they had to spend half a night under a bridge? Non story in my opinion.

It works out at like £1 an hour
No it doesn't it's more than minimum wage!!
Don't delete my comments because you know I'm right.
We pay them as taxpayers, why should we have to pay them twice to do one day's work?
You insulted me
I've confused myself by thinking about the work experience employment programme which is like £1 an hour
I'm tired
Exactly. These guys are paid more per day than an average minimum wage worker!!
You'd think they'd be more organised though
That is pretty poor. No doubt every man and their dog will blame the Tories though
so they had to stand around for a couple of hours, big deal. All back to work programs for the last 30 years have been useless they are all the same, least amount of effort put in by the provider to give you a useless wallyfication to keep you off the jobless total.
I don't think the problem is in that they had to work hard and in unreasonable conditions, it is the fact that other's are making money out of them doing so.
They are getting paid to sit at home most days. A little hard work will do them good!
Plus the company providing the service will be paying tax and NI for.them for a change..I would have all long term unemployed earning the benefits I pay for.

This kind of narrow minded attitude helps no-one. Also, because society has been kinder to you, it means it does NOT owe you back. Open your eyes and mind.
Many work in worse conditions. The benefits received from this TWO WHOLE DAYS of work, could be great, wherein they have jobs at the end of it, something to put on their CV's, a qualification and greater job prospects.
As I said many work in worse conditions everyday. Two days for those who don't work, isn't going to kill anybody and in fact, may well teach some of them something and may well, produce a job for many of them.
I'm not sure what was expected, were they expecting to have hotels paid for them? They already had clothes and a license paid for.
The problem is, people focus on those doing the work and saying 'so what, they get their hands dirty' etc. etc. Wheras if you look at the bigger picture, this is just a case of the rich exploiting the poor for their own means and because people have these warped senses of justice, they get away with doing it.
I don't agree. This is a case where people are put on trail. If they work for it, they get picked.
What happens when I go for a trial at Liverpool for a month? Do they pay me? No. I have the chance to prove I'm upto the job.
