no england are just terrible

germany have been caught on the break. that never happened to england as they didn't venture forward in over one hundred and twenty minutes of football.

Of course they did Ole. They had plenty of chances to score. Please remember the first half and how even it was.

Balotelli has his shooting boots on tonight. That's the difference. England are still miles behind Portugal, forget Germany.

Who'd have thought Germany would make England look good? Funny old game, as someone used to say.

I'm not saying England are better than Germany but they're not as far behind as a lot of people think. You could say Welbeck, Johnson or Rooney didn't have their shooting boots on last week as they had chances to score too.

No no no! That's the problem with people. England are no where near Germans technically. Midfield is king in football, and England's midfield is on par with Greece from the tournament.

You can't say this wasn't coming. They were lucky to get past Denmark and looked poor at the back on the rare occasions Greece attacked them.

Germany's midfield isn't looking too great at the moment. Like I said, if England could add Wilshire and someone else into their team they're not far off being a decent shout for last 4 in 2014.

yes, now that you mention it i remember one chance for glen johnson and another half chance for welbeck. however, i also recall balotelli missing three great chances and di rossi wrapping the post, in between all this were long periods of italy passing the ball around a static england midfield. an even half indeed.

Rooney had a chance too. Look, it's a national pastime knocking your own team in this country. If people can't see the positives (and England do have positives) than England supporters don't deserve to have a team that wins anything.

This is a German team that have had two days extra rest and no extra time/penalties to deal with and are being made to look ordinary by a team that could not score against England. If you can't see even a glimmer of positivity in that then I worry for you.

splendid. at this rate england are on course to be the moral winners.

You post some rubbish don't you. Germany are miles better than us. The fact Italy beat them doesn't change that.

The Italians made us look average and defended for the most part today. Why do you think they did that?

Answer that question. It would help you develop your football knowledge

If you are such an expert why not post this before tonights game?

I did an article a few days back saying that Germany weren't all that and for people to say that Germany would beat England everytime shows how little about football they know.

Anyone can beat anyone. These international tournaments come around so infrequently that you can never really know just how good a team is as proven tonight. The history books will show that Germany made it to the semis while England made it to the quarters and were a couple of penalty kicks away from beating the Italians.

Should we have our 1999 Champions League trophy taken away because we were completely outplayed by Bayern? No, the history books will show that we won that and few will look beyond the result.

Try and see that Italy, who had two days less rest and had far less fresh players than Germany were better than Germany. Germany are not an amazing team because they haven't played amazing football in this tournament. England didn't either and i'm not denying that but how anyone can think they're miles ahead of England is just an opinion. Give me one shred of evidence for this. What have they done? A FULL squad with no injuries coming into the tournament went ONE stage further than England who had 6 key players missing.

Yeah, 'miles' ahead.

Who were these 6 key players?

The last time we played Germany with our star studded team we were torn a new one.

They are miles better than we are. We struggled to beat Sweden and Ukraine. Thank heavens we didn't play Germany again, there's nowhere left to rip open

Wilshire, Barry, Lampard, Bent (who would have gone), Cahill and Smalling.

Add to that Rooney being out of the first 2 games so not being able to get as match fit as everyone else and Carrick, Richards and Ferdinand not going i'd say England aren't in as bad shape as the critics say.

What a load of nonsense, the history books show that brazil, Italy & Germany are the best football nations on the planet. However the English seem to think it's their right to win these trophies however they never do, accept it England is a footballing backwater, none of theses countries rate England

ManUtd daredevil

The 2010 result was a freak one. We were 2-1 down and even without the perfectly legitimate goal that wasn't given we were caught out on the counter attack chasing goals just as Germany were tonight and they could EASILY have conceded 5 or 6 tonight had Italy finished off their one on ones.
Also, United lost 6-1 to City. Are they a much better team than us? No, because again, we were chasing goals and they happened to score on every chance they had.

Germany were better than us in 2010 but not by the amount people seem to remember. I re-watched that game a couple of months ago and Germany scored with every chance they had. It wasn't a battering, just what happens when a team loses control at the back when they go in search of goals.

when did I say that England deserve to win every tournament they enter. People seem to think England are either going to win a trophy or are the worst team ever. Such polar extremes.
I think England are a good, solid team and with a bit of luck with injuries and a braver manager could do well.
Same with most international teams.

Germany had everything in their favour. They were playing a team with less rest than them, and had a full team but choked tonight. Someone tell me why this makes Germany an amazing team?

>>The Italians made us look average

disagree

There was nothing Italy did that make us look anything.

We parked the bus on our 18 and gave them the rest of the pitch to do with what they liked.
