For united, Rooney is brilliant, for England he is terrible.
Ofcourse hes not as bad as people (ABUs) are making him out to be, us true Utd fans know how good he can be at times, but im sorry, if you put Ronaldo and Messi in the world class bracket, then Rooney falls short, hes good, very good, but not world class.
Wayne wasn't good, didn't look sharp, but he also didn't really have a midfield to work with as we were sitting so deep and our wingers just weren't on form.
The Italians let Welbeck and Carroll win the first headers, but then were quick to swarm the second ball in numbers, which was often what Rooney would be collecting.
For me he should have been eased into the side, rather than thrown in as the savior.
As for Messi, he didn't actually have that bad a world cup, he just didn't score and a lot was made out of it, mainly due to the fact that he's so prolific for Barca.
How many world-class players are there? Too many.

Is the Portugal team a ‘great’ team? Is it as good as the team that had Deco, Figo, Gomes, etc…?
Is the Italian team a ‘great’ team? Is it as good as the team that had Cannavaro, Inzaghi, etc…?
You could argue that neither of these teams are anything special yet both of their star players, Ronaldo and Pirlo were immense and stood out.
Where was Rooney for England?
You're preaching to the converted bobby, go tell it to the mountains, over the hills and far away.

He's a million miles from the top two brackets of players.
The top being Messi and Ronaldo and then the likes of Ozil, Iniesta, Xavi.
He's in thethird bracket. Still a top top player.
Md!!!!!!
How are you squire?
Not too bad good sir. You still in France?
I remember in November 2005 when he ripped Argentina with Messi...

Messi didn't play in that game.

How was Ronaldo immense for Portugal?
500 shots and 3 goals is pretty p iss poor yet people are lambasting Rooney for having 4 shots and 1 goal or something.
Messi scored 3 against Brazil recently.
Nope, finally back in the uk after twelve long months with too many french people...
What's been keeping you busy?
Just so I know, are you putting Rooney in the same bracket as Zidane, Messi, Best, Maradona and Cruyff?
Maybe if he didnt swan off to Las Vegas a month before the Euros then England might have stood a chance.
Blame the players around him all you want. They werent the cause for him looking unfit, sloppy and out of match practice
The Euros only last for 6 games. You dont have time to settle in and slowly work your way into the team. You need to be ready from the off.
His stupidity in getting sent off and incurring a 2 match ban and then jetting off for a holiday a short while before the tournament means he should get no sympathy at all.
I agree with everything Mr Chelsea said
Ps Las Vegas is brilliant

Desperatly playing catchup in training and even asking for extra training to try and get to the fitness and sharpness levels of the other players
He didn't make it but it wasn't for the want of trying
Hope this helps
Rooney isn't world class. Being world class requires a certain level of professionalism and mentality. He doesn't have the mentality of a world class player. Would a genuine world class footballer go on a holiday to Las Vegas two weeks before the Euopean Championships. Knowing he was going to miss the first two games he should have been getting himself in good shape. Instead it looked like he had his fair share of all you can eat buffets in Las Vegas.

even if he was fit, i dont think he could have influenced our games in anyway possible.
i dont think he enjoys playing for england at all
Rooney didn't prepare properly for the euros, he looked royally unfit.
I now noticed he doesn't have to go on United's summer tour... Why the exception?
Messi didn't have a poor World Cup in 2010. Was brilliant in all of the games in which he created numerous chances for his team-mates. Just because he didn't score doesn't mean he had a poor tournament.
theres no doubt about it though, if rooney had Scholes and Carrick in midfield with valencia on the right and young on the left with welbeck next to him, he'd be a better player.
he plays better with better players around him which is obvious to see as when he plays for united!
