no bales... boxing is only made subjective due to officials making bad decisions...

you must surely agree that whether or not someone has been hit in the target area is a matter of fact, not a matter of opinion

What about darts? That's a pass-time, surely?

Darts is most definately a sport.

so until hawkeye was brought in tennis wasnt a sport then chronic

I bet those Danish rowers who pipped our two guys in the lightweight sculls had some tasty pastries for breakfast. that's the difference at the highest level of sport.
A good breakfast.

Shredded Wheat > Danish Pastries

My point is really of you understood the diving judging like you do the boxing you'd think very differently.

=====
Tennis wasn't depenpent on a judges opinion, it was dependent on shots played.

Darts a sport? Don't make me laugh

What about drawing lots for which sport you take part in?
Would make an interesting diversion.
For example, Andy Murray pole vaulting.

yeah but that doesnt matter.... the aim is to hit the target, not to hit it hard...

hitting hard is an advantage as it weakens the opponent making him easier to knock out.... but the aim is solely to hit the target.

Darts doesn't need a judge.. neither does chess for that matter..

well in the 80's and you hit a brilliant shot which caught the line but the line judge calls it out then the result is changed du to a subjective call made by a judge

why can't we have Chess at the Olympics

not sure.. i guess it does by my definition but there is clearly a line somewhere as soon you get onto chess, backgammon, scrabble, boggle..... none of which are really sports....

darts is more of a sport than that horsey thing though

=================================
so the umpire, net judge and line judges played no part then before hawkeye

posted on 4/8/12

Net judges are no more

posted on 4/8/12

The umpire etc are just like football refs, not like diving judges

posted on 4/8/12

Shove ha'penny was an olympic sport until decimalisation.

agreed, however as discussed earlier... my definition is that a sport should not be something where the outcome is SOLELY decided by judges, as it is in diving and that horse event.

a whole tennis tournament can be played without once needing to refer to the umpire for a line call

I wish they'd explain the rules behind some of these sports - Javelin for instance.
