Have faith boys, tomorrow is a new day.

Well played SA, other than the stand of Cook and Trott, they have been magnificent the whole match.

I stuck my neck out before this series and said I fancied the Saffers and boy did they show their class today. It's not a flat pitch and any lead of 200 will be tough for England.... But is tahir really as good as swann - he'll have a lot of pressure on him??

Quality day. Some masterful stroke play from Amla. I salute you sir.

Meant its NOW a flat pitch.....

no i dont think tahir is as gd as swann. Though i have a feeling some of the batsmen will make him look better by playing crap shots on day 5. +day 5 we might have the ball spinning more.
remember SA are really gd spin players. they drw against pak and india in the subcontinent. So it was always going to be hard to pick SA wickets through spin. I feel maybe the pace of finn could have done the trick. also there was no reverse swing at all so the pacers were ineffective. Would probably say this pitch was crap. and I hope we have better pitches in the next 2 matches. ow as we hv seen today, the batsmen will make this matches so boring.

was just wondering why do england always try to go with a no.6 batsman???? all of them till now have failed, and england tbh didnt even need their service. Why dont they go with 5 bowlers instead? atleast it would ease the workload on bowlers like anderson and broad when the pitch is as flat as this. + their bowlers contribute with the bat anyway.

This was a crucial toss to win. This pitch seems to play like the SCG, a bit of spice on the first day then it flattens out before turning into a bit of a dustbowl on day 5. Realistically SA are the only team who can win this now.

Viru,

I disagree. How can you call this test match boring. 3 days in and its been cracking. England on top first day then Saffers bounced back in style. Englands turn to do what Saffers bowlers did on 2nd day.... Or Saffers to work out a plan to win it.... Im suprised you call this boring. TEST match.......TEST!!

hei guys, with a body full of guinness I popped in and saw that the Saffers have given us a beating for the second day in a row.

Duncan, hard to disagree with that and now England are going to have to knuckle down and make sure that we go into the second test match tied at nil nil.

Respect where it is due, the visitors are clearly playing some great cricket and it's hard not to enjoy and appreciate their efforts.

Virat Kohli though... that guys a machine!- Our ODI batsman need to learn a thing or two from him. Look how he demolished the medium pacers of SL and they were putting our batting line-up to bed!

Right then, day 4 is upon us and the Saffers have a strong wind up their seil. They have now taken the game away from us and it is up to us to show what we are made of.

The Saffers are playing hardball and we need to dig deep and get out of this little mess they are putting us in.

I don't like Test Match Cricket - I LOVE IT

The key wickets today will be AB Dev and Duminy as they are key to SA to score quick runs and get a 250 lead quickly as possible.

Agreed Kash, England have to bowl superbly today, and try and make South Africa score slowly. My only hope is that the wicket continues to be a batsmens paradise all the way to the end. That way they will bat, and then we will bat and the draw will be a certainty. Wickets spells trouble for us.

I can't see the wicket detiorating like sub cont wickets get so it will still be good for batting but tomorrow is meant to be overcast which could assist SA.

if this guy steyn's as good as they say he is, and as good as his figures suggest, he'll be able to bowl on anything.

Amla was clean shaven when he started this innings...
