'Officially' there was 15,500 Jacko..
But I know what you mean, it's dire.
compare Burnley v Bolton on Saturday..ok a derby,
but Forest would have had a good few there I'd imagine.
It's 'not happening' at the 'Smithies owd McAlpine's Pharm' is it. ! As much work to do off the field as on it..
Spot on Wethers..
we albeit slowly climb up the table..
while the 'Stig of the Dump' boys PLUMMET ...
& still 'they' come on our board...
check out 'their' match thread.. It's a shocker
jacko, just re iterates what i said about the midfield..
taking the ball off a centre back is great if you can turn and move forward, its not if you can only play it back to him or at best sideways..
3 central midfielders in a line is never a great thing, there is no depth going forward or backwards.. it always ends up with them dropping virtually back in the back 4 and the gap is then cavernous up to the forward players or even anyone who is wide.. 4 players in a line can always be bypassed by a decent pass or a runner..
we are frightened so much by pace that we stop hunt getting into an attacking position ..we are so frightened by pace that our full backs drop in everytime to cover the centre halves and the opposition will always have a choice of wide players to give the ball too who are unmarked and facing our goal..
forest always had our wide players marked, sometimes double teaming them.. thankfully jack finally took on the double team and got a penalty..
kicking the ball long and high works if you follow it up and at least challenge for the second ball, we dont, , therefore its a total waste of time.. rhodes/novak didnt always make a run into the channels so that wasnt on very often.. bit dissapointed with both of them about that, but when its mostly going nowhere near you or over you head it probably p-sses you off a bit..?
Cox said after the match that our tired legs at the end gave the pen away....fair play it's all part of the game. We should have made it count in the first half. But our team still needs to gel as we have many new signings in the team and we'll only get better and more players to come in too. Look forward to the return game at the City Ground
btw..
the atmosphere got a bit better when we looked like we were playing at home..first few minutes and the last few minutes..
forest were fairly circumspect as well..
colleague of mine is a reading fan..he says the atmosphere there last season wasnt great for most of the home games!!!!
I rest my case on crowd noise.....
I enjoyed that game tonight that's 2 games in a row that i have been happy with towns performance, there is not a lot wrong look on the bright side forest couldn't brake our defense down last season they would have scored 7 , we're not far off a very good side now.
This is the point we deserved against Cardiff cos we should have been battered tonight.
Anyway, the formation at the end of the game we three at the back looked better than what we played the rest of the game and it gave hunt and ward the chance to get forward.
Early days but I'm not convinced by southern yet and Dixon looks like more proof that the Scottish prem is cr@p.
We were VERY poor in the first half - it's not even an exaggeration to say Forest could have been 5-0 up by half time (hit the woodwork twice, Smithies made 2 great saves and a couple of efforts from corners went just wide). They were building momentum and I don't know how we managed to go in at half time 0-0 but we did. We were actually better in the second half, we didn't let them get around us quite as easily and we cut out silly mistakes (a couple of bad backpasses from Dixon and a crazy high kick into our box by Scannell in the first half). We still didn't create anything though and nobody can argue Forest were good value for the win going into added time. Then Hunt did what he seemed afraid to do for most of the match, hit the acceleration and went for the byline - penalty. It looked an unconvincing penalty but it went in, a massive point for us and a massive goal for Rhodes as he'll need to try carry his momentum from last season with him if he's to score plenty at this level too.
Positives:
- A point on the board.
- Rhodes got a goal.
- Scannell looks a threat.
- Norwood and Clayton.
- Hunt still looks dangerous at this level.
Negatives:
- Novak was very poor.
- Rhodes did nothing at all until scoring the penalty.
- Dixon looked uncomfortable for large periods of the game.
- Scannell lacked a real end product.
- Defensively very suspect, gifted them too many chances in the first half.
As for Forest, they looked very good, bossed our strikers the entire game and got Blackstock and Reid onto the ball often who look too good for this level. O'Driscoll is a good manager if he has the players at his disposal to play good football and Forest certainly seem to have them.
On a serious note, how are Hudds fans taking to Grayson?
15,500 approx, and I'd say 3,000 from forest...so 12,500 Town fans who bought tickets, actual attendance will be 1,000 less as it normally is...so about 11,500 turned up ?poor.
I'm not yet convinced about Southern and Clayton, and where was our right midfield ? I didn't like the game plan, it was negative. Long balls just an admission you're getting cuffed. One shot on target all game, at home.
Grayson needs to be more positive, we can't play all 46 games like they are away games.
We defo need a man up top who can win some headers. We need a right sided midfield player with some pace.
I accept Forest were very good, and once they sussed they had nothing to fear from us they attacked at will (6 shots on target, 54% possession). Like a lot of stupid FIFA coached managers though, O'Driscoll stopped doing what had been working for 90 minutes and went defensive at the end, conceded ground, allowed us more room and hey presto we scored..Apart from a Novak howler and a Rhodes slice in the 1st half, we didn't offer that much.
I reckon Clayton will be replaced by Arfield on Saturday...Burnley match thread will be up on thursday by the way.
Did anyone get their tickets checked by the way ?
Town had one effort on goal, and that was the penalty kick.
No goals against Preston. No goals against Cardiff. One goal... from the penalty spot against Nottingham Forest. That’s a single goal in 270+ minutes. It does not augur well.
Some of you may be aware that Huddersfield Giants have been playing very poorly. After the home loss against Wakefield I think it was, Head Coach, Paul Anderson, accused the team of playing like windscreen wipers... back and forth across the pitch. Town did exactly the same tonight. Maybe it’s not the marsh gas I suggested earlier, maybe the pitch is built over an ancient burial ground à la ‘Poltergeist’, and someone should call in the Ghostbusters. Or maybe there is a much simpler reason, after all, it’s a simple game!
Like 38YEARS, I was asking why no one was doing a marking job on Reid.
See my earlier post under the heading ‘City 1 TOWN 0’, re- the Magnificent Magyars and their ‘playmaker’. Can we have one, Dad?
88th minute sub for Cox...
Glad we only have to play you once again this season, keep seeing comments by Jacko and think it's me and I'm having short term memory loss. Good luck for the rest of the season (except for the return game).
According to Sky Sports we had 13 shots to Forests 11?!
2 on, 11 off target
Striker please.
Just realised that in my match thread I predicted the exact score and was only 66 off the correct attendance.
It's the lottery tonight
Got lucky last night. It was nice to see away fans for a change too.
Just to clarify, I didn't get lucky....... I meant town.
Hydy, did you miss the pen?
Couple of things I learned last night
Novak is not a Championship Player.
Dixon needs a couple of games to settle still, but did get better as the game went on.
Jordan Rhodes is no where near worth £6-8m if Simon Cox only cost £2m.
If Jacko thinks Arfield is better than Clayton , He's on Drugs. That pass over the defence to Novak in't first half(which he skied over bar), was better than Arfield has done in three years.
Striker(s) needed. Simon Church would be a good start.
p.s Hydy, Did me and Tez follow you in to car park last night with a woman pushing a pram? The lad had Highe on back of his Town Top and Tez was convinced it was you?
Wetherby I was by the rope walk when the penalty went in!
Inter I got back to you on twitter last night mate, that was my brother and sister. I was stuck in traffic
Totally missed that tweet mate!
Tez did say he quite fancies ya sister though
Ward has to start on Saturday and arfield maybe
Ward in place of who??
