To put Novak up top or drop him?
I don't think Novak is Championship quality, but Ward has done nothing to impress most all of last season and last night he shows he still just swings a boot at everything
Ward/or Arfield, in place of Novak. I'd personally go with Arfield as I thought he had a good game on Friday night and he'd be better defensively (we'll have to defend a lot this season if last night is anything to go by).
Yes cas I'd agree with you ward/ arfield in for Novak
Took my lad to his first night match, with it being the holidays etc. He asked me who scored the penalty...... I said Rhodes..... His words were "was he playing?"
We need a big quick striker in my opinion, not a big donkey, just hope it happens sooner rather than later.
The reason for ward is because he actually runs at people
Another point from last night is where are all the assists gonna come from for Rhodes? No one breaks from midfield and scannell doesn't pass
Inter, Tez likes owt with t-its@
Their two strikers, Blackstock and Cox, bossed our defenders. Between them in their careers they wont have scored as many as Rhodes, but on last nights game who would you rather have??
Town fans harp on about Rhodes being one of the best strikers even at this level, and Clayton being a brilliant signing in midfield. On last nights showing they are very poor in comparison to better players at this level - Dexter Blackstock looked like a beast up front and was unlucky not to have got a hat-trick while Andy Reid dictated play beautifully from midfield.
Clayton is not a bad signing, but sometimes he has more time on the ball than he realises and jumps humps it away.
He kept slipping with his daft pink boots on too. His first touch was suspect at times.
We need a striker to play with Rhodes who is big and similar to blackstock last night
You mean a striker called Blackstock then?
I kno I'm going to get shot down in flames here but anyway, if we play like that all season which is highly likely, I think we should cash in on Rhodes because he won't score loads of goals and his price will drop and with the money we could buy two championship proven strikers. Just my opinion don't all shoot at once
I agree with you jp. I said the same to my dad the other day, sell him now whilst his reputation is intact.
Just checked my twitter inter, my tweet was in my drafts!
Thought the same myself at times JP. Cash in now and buy two good strikers with the money. Guys with proven championship pedigree. Problem is once clubs knew we had Rhodes money, their players would suddenly have an extra million added to their value.
Hypothetically, we could have sold Rhodes for £6m, brought in Cox for £2m, Antonio for £1m, Morrison for £1m and still had £2m left over.
The BBC match report credits Town with just one shot on target. Even if it’s twice that many it ain’t enough, by a long chalk.
What’s all this talk of wanting a striker? There was a player on the pitch last night wearing blue and white stripes, who scored more league goals last season than any other player in the four tiers, but was there any decent service to him? There were numerous occasions particularly in the second half when he was wishing and hoping for a through ball, or a cross to the far post, and absolutely nothing was forthcoming. As 38YEARS mentions, players will eventually get fed up of trying. In case you can’t guess, the player I refer to is Jordan Rhodes, who scored an absolute gem of a goal for Scotland against Australia, from a cross by a winger who attacked the defence with pace, looked up to see where he was and hit a first-time cross into the danger area.
It’s not a striker that Town need. They need a system that gets the ball in the danger area, quickly and efficiently. Last night some of the wasted opportunities were bordering on the criminal.
The club has more midfielders than one can shake a stick at, but the build up play is slow, unimaginative, predictable and consequently very ineffective. Twas ever thus.
Drugs ? Short term memory loss ? Blimey, I think, from what I've read so far, most people agree with me....
In the 1st half there were times when we didn't have one player beyond the left side of the centre spot, everybody huddled up you could throw a blanket over them. We need to be more expansive. We have a top goal scorer here and we need to give him the ball...I couldn't believe the number of times Hunt set off down the wing only to stop and pass it back inside...what's all that about. He went in ONCE all game..and we know what happened there.
I said after the Cardiff game, we can't spend 90 minutes sitting tight and waiting for a break. We conceded on 90 mins at Cardiff which left no time to organise ourselves into attack mode, and the same very nearly happened again last night. Losing 0-1 without 'giving it a go' is madness.
We looked like an away team last night. Grayson needs to find a way of getting more quality ball up to Rhodes ...and our new skillfull midfiled players have got to stop show boating and play more direct football, push up more, attack their defence and find openings...faffing about on the half way line with little lobs, short passes and flicks will not do.
having said that, I know its early doors, and we do look a more accomplished side than last year, but the game plan needs to be more positive. We can't keep playing tight for 90 minutes then hope something happens in injury time every week.
As for Arfield, I know why he was dropped, but he was unlucky as he played well at cardiff and works hard and links well with Hunt. Clayton and Southern need to get more involved and Norwood has to be more incisive, as does Scannell who does look a good player.
I thought Lynch played well too..in fact nobody played bad, it's the game plan that needs reviewing..
I thought Novak had a bad game.
He ran well, but first touch was as bad as his attempts to win a header and his finishing
Go on then, Why was Arfield dropped?
I'd agree Inter, but neither striker was very much involved. Better ball from midfield and a few more crosses might to dot he trick. Novak spent most of the game with his back to the goal although I did think he could have done better with his 1st half shot and perhaps could challenge for more headers. I don't think his positional sense is very good either, there were 2 ocassions late on when we crossed to the far post but Novak had run into the centre where Rhodes was...and we had no one at the back post area...
I want Novak to prove me wrong, but I don't think he is Championship Standard.
Hydy, no wonder I missed that tweet.
I know inter, forgot how slow the Internet is at football matches. Just presumed it had been sent.
