i wouldnt know which one's the best captain tbh out of bell and cook.

strauss was good at the media stuff, apparently not so good at the dressing room stuff, and i dont really rate him as an on the field captain particularly.

sad to see him go in a way, but i reckon his eyes had gone. that last dismissal was a ttoal shocker, and he's only reached 50 5 times in over 30 innings. not good enough as an opener.

will they bring root in now, or move trott up i wonder ?

did you watch the 5th day by the way when the lower order guys were smashing the ball around ? that's as exciting as sport gets for me. brilliant stuff. except for a couple fo sessions when SA were getting on tpo, i thought that was an absoloutely cracking test match.

Rooty for me, one of my great mates in the game, absolute class act. From all accords i think Strauss was fantastic in the dressing room, the only thing that says different is the K.P incident - out of which the whole team seem very united, meaning it is KP rather than Strauss.

Enjoyed the 5th day mate. Really enjoyed watching Bairstow, Broad and Swann bat.

i wouldnt be so sure on the dressing room/KP personally. i dont know anything about it, but it wouldnt surprise me if swann and broad had some culpability.

bairstow looks like a real find. it's not very often you see an english rookie play an innings like that in a game situation as important as that. in terms of temperament, it reminded me of ban hollioake's 87 on one day debut against australia.

plays across the line a bit (eg 1st innings dismissal), but reckon he can sort that out.

The interesting thing about Bairstow is that throughout youth county cricket he was stronger through extra cover then anywhere else.

Honestly think you are incorrect re KP and Strauss. Strauss seemed a fantastic man, and everything you ever here from any player in that team is how good a leader he is.

fair enough pidier. yes, he has always struck me as being of very upright character.

surprised at that about bairstow. he played a beautiful stright drive and a textbook cover drive in the 2nd innings, so he clearly still has it in him. maybe one day cricket has messed up his shot selection a bit.

are you still in touch with root ? do you know if he feels ready to play test match cricket ?
