this would be the most obvious place to pick up the discussion :

"but dont tell people to watch and support the events based on the false premise that they will be watching the pinaccle of sporting excellence, because that is simply not the case."
=============================================
This paragraph is telling
No one actually assumed this for starters ( you assumed they did, ignoring the points made about elitism which you poo pooed)
All that does is back up you refuse to accept they are the elite in their field(against common sense and testament) and that you have no intention of watching them because you simply refuse to accept it as a legitimate competition....because they are not able-bodied.
============================
just to clarify then in answer to galvin's post, in as non-confrontational a way as i can :

-the competition is marketed as the pinnacle of sporting competition, because it is brand bracketed with the olympics. tickets etc are sold on the basis that specators are watching olympic competition which by definition (higher, faster,stronger) is a competition to find the most elite athletes in the world.

- yes, i do "refuse to believe" that they are the "elite in their field". if they were the elite in their field, they would be taking part in the main olympics.

-nowhere have i have said that i refuse to accept something as "legitimate competition" on the grounds that the participants are not able bodied. this alegation is typical of the groundless and fabricated allegations which have been made against me in this discussion. if you want to se what i actually HAVE said, i suggest you re-read my posts, for example the post which i wrote about an hour ago before you returned to the thread, which summarises the legitimate and accurate point that I have made.

========================

dont know why you say that mate.

i joined in a discussion which someone else had started. originally this took the form of a joke which was critcised, and I also then stated my opinion on the olympics which was discussed in detail.

rather than reading what i had written though, people just started picking up on the fact that i had been accused of discriminating against people with disabilities, and started doing the same.

there were a few comments which attempted to show how i had been disriminatory, but these were all hopefless because they just showed the opposite, so people just started calling me names when I pointed out that their points made no logical sense.

What would you have done differently in this situation ?

The initial joke may on reflection be on the borderline of bad taste, but the discussion centred on the serious points that i made about the paralympics, and there is nothing in those which should be offensive to anyone if they had read what i was actually saying, rather than jumping to conslusions.

If anything it's me who should feel aggrieved about it, but unfortunately people tend to get involved in arguments (im not talking about galvin here btw or anyone in particular) and then when they cant make a reasoned substantiation of their point, just resort to mudslinging, and probably to reporting the comments which prove their arguments to be incorrect.

I didnt intentionally enter into an argument yesterday, I just made a point which so far as I can see is perfectly legitimate, and then tried to clarify that point in response to replies to it.

To suit your view you mean?
OK...I'll read it now oh great debater
=====================

no, because that's where we'd got up to. it was my reply to the only point you had made which appeared to have any sort of substance to it.

i could have posted my reply to your dwarf and poetry comments, or mighty's elitest comments, which all clearly highlight the validity of my position and the spuriousness of your criticism of it, but we had moved on from there.

man I know you on here well enough, so you can drop this victim act you thrive on that type of conversation, and you will never drop it until whoever you are talking to just drops off out of boredom and then you'll claim victory in the 'arguement'. You will happily go over this for weeks, its not a bad thing but when you know you have piissed everyone off and then admin comes on and warns you all you had to do was drop it. Agree to disagree and move on, but thats just not in your nature

just read throught the discusison though messiah, and i thing youll find it's as i describe it. im making reasoned points and just receiving baseless mudslinging in return.

im not making a victim act. it IS me who was called all the names, but it doesnt bother me and im not making a meal out of it. i havent complained about any of the accusations that im a bigot, a white supremacist, someone who wants disabled people to be hidden away etc. all totally groundless, but i let them go apart from restating what the actual point was that i had made. you'r analysis of how i partake in a dispute is totally misleading as well. it's nothing to do with dropping out out of boredom. i just have superior debating skills as i am trained in dispute representation and management. i dont go out of my way to use those skills on here though, but people take umbrage with it because they arent used to dealing with people who have the skillset that i have. it therefore looks like i am being more confrontational and arumgentative than i am.

By your own arguments Daley Thomson was not really that elite. Otherwise he would have been competing in Decathlon but the main events?

He was elite in his field. The pertinent point being the term "field", which can be a hyperspecialised domain area.

I am sure I tick a few of those boxes. I am amazed by narcissistic personality disorder. My mate an psychiatric nurse plays football with one, who is a "star" player with the most incredible excuses.
