Major made a point of watching Hampshire whenever I could just to see Barry
.............

squid,

I'm glad you did. I went to watch him at Old Trafford in the late 70s and he was out in the first few overs... Gutted was an understatement.

Special talent. Bradman selected him in his team of the century, says it all.

Gallop just out of interest who would you have ahead of him?

Sachin Tendulkar as greatest batsman for me. Not that old to see Sir Viv and Sir Sobers to play.
But Sehwag all day long as most exciting batsman to watch

Hmmm, favourite all time overseas player for any sport...so many to choose from; but it would be a toss up between sir Viv Richards (a true gentleman) or Brian Lara.
Favourite overseas player for our club would be John Barnes. He was born in Jamaica so I assume he counts as an overseas player.

Anyone who's seen my profile could probably guess mine:

1. Marco Simoncelli. Such a joy to watch, gave some real edge to MotoGP for the short time he graced it. A great character, cruelly taken way, way too young.

2. Henry.

....oh, no, TK_65, wrestling is not a sport

Macho man played baseball too, and I'm willing to count that as a real sport so I can keep him

Henry TBH not a wrestling fan , but they do put themselves through so much including risk to their body , they provide so much pleasure to so many , on the minus side the use of steroids is awful........Is it a sport probably not but they dont really claim to be one

1. Muhammad Ali. A truly great person, both inside and outside the ring.
2. Ludek Miklosko for West Ham.

"Hmm that's an interesting point , he did play for England "

True, but apparently during the first 18 months he played for England, he was till a Jamaica passport holder, and a Jamaican citizen.
He was then granted UK citizenship. Most strange state of affairs

My favourite overseas sportsman despite actually often supporting Nadal has to be Roger Federer. The man is just pure class and his achievments in mens tennis may well never be matched.

As a Liverpool fan this is a tricky one, I would say Hyypia or Hamman but I dont think either perhaps unfairly has become to be regarded footballing star like Xabi Alonso has. Alonso despite playing in the same era as perhaps the best crop of midfielders the world as ever seen from one country has become a regular and won over a century of caps; while being invalubale to both Liverpool and Madrid. So I will have to say Alonso

Well it is included in the Olympics, but the kind you're talking about would come under the heading 'acting' I think.

As I said before whilst I agree about Federer it's not my fav sport but I have noticed that he's not performing at the level he used to......Is it a blip or has time caught up with him ????

On Wrestling I'm not sure whether it's a sport really matters the fact that it gives so much enjoyment to so many .....Not my bag but I can see why so many love it , I did take my nephew to an American show at Earls Court (I think) and to my surprise seeing it live was pretty good mind you seeing any sport live is a 100 times better than watching on the box.....Hmm an idea for the next thread

"On Wrestling I'm not sure whether it's a sport really matters..."

Well, it kind of does if you're asking people for their favourite sportsman/woman. Anyway, I was only kidding around.

...but it really isn't a sport. Entertainment sure, can't argue with that, people go nuts for it, but it's not sport.

Henry

What makes a Sport or not ???

Darts and snooker seem to be the ones that people argue about most
