Its a shame that racing back then was so dangerous, because it was so exciting as well.

I think this year is the first year in ages when I have really enjoyed the f1. Past seasons have been so dull.

Snooker, Darts, even F1 etc is not a sport.

They are games or other.

Sorry it took me a while to reply. Yep time has caught up with Federer to an extent. The difference between a tennis player at the peak of their powers at their mid 20's and when they hit 30 ish is quite considerable. He is still a class player though and despite ageing the fact that he always gets to the latter stages of grandslams and can still win them demonstrates his talent and variation in play.

Agree mate

those days were amazing and used to love the battles between Prost, senna and mansell etc

No way, they train harder and are fitter than most athletes out there.

No probs ........I watched Murrey slaughter him to win Gold , put that down to a fluke but he's been thumped a few times since then

@HenrysCat

Did you ever get to see Kevin Schwantz and Randy Mamola race?

Absolutely mental rides from those guy. The riding in general was so much more spectacular back in the days when they didn't have traction control and all the modern hi-tech stuff that makes the bikes more rideable.

Schwantz, Lawson, Gardner, Rainey, Mamola, a young Doohan - those old 500cc ch'ships were crraaazzy.

Also, ever seen this? Go straight to 1:08.

Thumped? Most of Federer's mates have retired (Roddick, Safin etc) but the lad is still competing with the younger generation.

Time has caught up with him but he is still the number-one ranked tennis player in the world. That is the measure of his talent. It is like Mike Tyson coming back to dominate the heavyweight when the Klitschkos are still present.

Federer has a backhand that dreams are made of, a joy to watch and his influence in improving the mens game and taking it to the next level.

Plus he is/seem a all round nice guy.

If Federer had played well he would of beaten Murray but he can no longer play brillantly on a consistent basis. So you never know what Roger will turn up when he plays one of the younger guys. I think thats the main difference between him now and 2-3 years ago. Not sure anyone has mentioned him but what about Michael Phelps the most successful olympian of all time?

Nobody can deny he was a true great but as everything in life time does catch up sooner or later , TBH I'd like to see the greats retire at the top rather than keep on until they are a shadow of what they were...Not saying he is at that stage yet but he doesn't watch it it will happen

Michael Phelps is a great but in swimming, his medals have to be examined in the overall context.

Phelps , yep amazing....Dont forget Thorp he was pretty good.....I heard him tell a story about the twin towers , he said he forgot his camera which delayed him by about 20 minutes and saved his life as he should of been in the building above where the first plane hit

What about tiddlywinks then? Is that a sport as it does require skill.

posted on 7/9/12

Sport requires skill.
Games are based on luck (turn of
a card or roll of a dice etc)
-------

Chess or Scrabble aren't based on luck and so are many card games - yet, they're not sports so I disagree with your definition. I would say sport is any game requiring a certain degree of athleticism. I just can't rate darts or snooker as sports.

At the highest level they play for days at a time , it requires stamina , nerves of steel the ability to control all bodily functions and involves sums of money beyond comprehension
